The hitting cards for pitchers in a non-DH league are not the same as the hitting cards for regular hitters. The result of a pitcher's at-bat is determined by consulting hitting charts which are not published in the SOM online game. Maybe someone can post a link to them elsewhere online but I've never seen them.
From the "how to read a strat card" link:
Hitting ability [for pitchers] -- The first number is his overall offensive rating (1 is the worst; 8 is the best). The second character indicates whether the pitcher has home run power (a "W" means no; an "N" means yes). The third character is what side the pitcher hits (righthanded, lefthanded or switch).
