4 nights of games since last post -- Gorman now at .283, 32 HR, 73 RBI, 1.049 OPS ---- not a bad season at all, especially for doing it in half a season.

And to think I gave consideration to trading him :shock:

It it is best to leave a chump like Gorman off the list. It will just go to his head and then Sean will have contract issues and a hold out for '86.

I'll definitely have a hard time signing him in 1986 .... this is his last year of eligibility. The federal government and social security are forcing him to retire in his prime :cry: :cry:

It's been an unbelievable run, Gorman. The fans of Boston love you in a way they never loved you back in the real 80's !!!

Gary Carter, HAK - Just like the race for the Eastern Division title, the voting between Carter and runner up Eddie Murray was very close. Both had terrific numbers (Carter .318, 31, 85 and Murray .305, 29, 71) but Carter was slightly better with the bat and plays a more important role on defense. Another factor was that teammate Doug DeCinces may have taken away some votes from Murray as he is also having a stellar season.

Jack Morris, KNI - In another close race, Morris edges out Mike Scott for the best SP of the first half. Scott led the league in 2/3rds the pitching Triple Crown categories (ERA and Ks). Perhaps if their supporting casts were reversed, the results would be different, but in the end, Morris's incredible 14-3 record was too much to overlook. Like 1984's Midseason Cy Young winner, Mike Flanagan, Morris has an outside shot at 30 wins if he keeps going the way he is.

George Bell, MAN - 4th in the league in average (.336) and hits (115), 7th in HR (23) and RBI (66), Bell's numbers speak for themselves. Despite having fallen into the 2nd round of the draft, he has outperformed all those drafted ahead of him...or after him, for that matter. That's no small feat as there was much competition for this award this year. Sykes' M&M boys, Hershiser, Van Slyke, Bradley and Bryn Smith, to name a few.

1B – Eddie Murray, BFD (Steady Eddie keeps rising above the rest of the 1B crop)
2B – Bobby Grich, FAT (Not a lot of great 2B this year, but Grich's .275, 17, 53 are plenty good enough to make 1st team)
3B – Doug DeCinces, BFD (Leads the BFDs in hitting and is right on Murray's heels in HRs and RBIs)
SS – Robin Yount, KNI (Having a nice bounce back year from a disappointing 1984; .312, 17, 69)
OF – Gorman Thomas, MAN (Despite some shameless promoting by his manager, Stormin' Gorman makes the first team in his last year :lol: )
OF – George Bell, MAN (See above)
OF – Kirk Gibson, BRE (This first time All-Star is the main run producer for IMB's Breakers; .283, 22, 61)
DH – Mike Easler, HAK (Platoon players have a tough time making the 1st team, but an OPS a shade under 1.000 will get you on every time)
SP – Jack Morris, KNI (See above)
SP – Mike Scott, EXP (Clearly the most dominant, if not the winningest, SP in the league this year )
SP – Joe Niekro, TEN (Ace numbers from a guy who was slated as the #4 SP at the beginning of the year; 11-7, 2.71 ERA, 1.04 WHIP)
SP – Mario Soto, CAN (The ace of the Canucks enjoying a fine farewell season; 10-7, 3.07 ERA, 1.14 WHIP)
SP – Britt Burns, BFD (This big lefty has nearly regained his Cy Young form of a few years back)
RP – Lee Smith, CAN (Big Bad Lee has been nothing short of devastating; He's turning in what could be the best relief performance of the decade; 33 sv, sub 1.00 ERA & WHIP)
RP – Doug Corbett, BUM (His 14 saves ranks 2nd in the league to Smith and has a 1.02 WHIP in a tough home park - the Kingdome)
RP – Joe Sambito, BRE (Was asked to supplant Gossage as closer and has responded with 13 saves with his ERA and WHIP just over 1.00)
RP – Dan Quisenberry, BEU (It happens every year. Quiz has got to be the best RP never to be named as their team's primary closer)
RP – Warren Brusstar, BFD (Has developed into an unlikey workhorse of the BFD's pen; On pace to log 100+ IP)

2B – Ryne Sandberg, BUM (Having a good, not great, season for Mav's Bums; .290, 12, 45)
3B – George Brett, FAT (The Fatboys' MVP of the first half; .318, 20, 69)
SS – Cal Ripken Jr., BEU (One of the bright spots in an otherwise disappointing year for the Beulahs....so far :wink: )
OF – Kevin McReynolds MUR (Another 2nd round rookie who may have taken his draft position personally; .318, 16, 53)
OF – Tony Gwynn, BRE (Tied for 2nd in the league in hitting, this likely won't be Gwynn's last All-Star appearance)

DH – Cecil Cooper, BUM (It wouldn't be an All-Star Game without Coop; His career may be winding down, but he's still a big run producer .309, 19, 60)
SP – Dave Stieb, KNI (Would be an ace on other teams; but he'll have to settle for being #2 behind Morris on the Knights' staff)
SP – Bryn Smith, CAN (Yet ANOTHER 2nd round rookie making the team; Maybe these guys have something to prove? 9-5, 3.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP)
SP – Dennis Martinez, BFD (El Presidente has been as consistent as anyone, posting 11 wins, good for 3rd best in the league)
SP – Bert Blyleven, MUR (Looks strange with MUR after his name, but it seems like ol' Bert has regained the form he lost a year ago with the Fatboys; 10-8, 3.54, 1.22)
SP – Danny Darwin, HAK (One of many non *SP on the Hakers staff having a big year; 9-3, 3.49, 1.19)
RP – Ken Dayley, BRE (Has developed into a top setup men in the league; 5-1, 2.35, 1.03)
RP – Dale Mohorcic, MAN (This innings eater is also a first time All-Star; on pace to pitch 130 IP out of the pen)
RP – Rick Camp, CAN (Another invaluable middle RP, Camp is unbeaten on the year at 6-0)
RP – Gene Garber, BEU (This will be his 2nd consecutive All-Star appearance; not bad for a .75 RP)

thank you for taking the time to do your All-Star selections. It's hard to disagree with any of those picks. Wade Boggs is crying in his chicken.

Boggs was overheard in the clubhouse, on his cell phone, complaining that "Albert don't know SH*T about all stars, Margo! I'm leading the freakin' league in hits. I'm second in batting average. And Freakin Albert thinks DeCinces and Brett are better than me. It ain't fair, dammit!! So what if 103 out of my 124 hits are singles, and so what if I only have half as many RBI as those other two guys. I'm the best, Margo! You told me so, remember that night? Margo? Margo? You still there? Oh, uh, hi honey .. how did you get on my phone? Who's Margo? Uh, oh uh, nobody honey. Are we still having chicken for supper when I get home tonite? Honey?? F**K !! Albert, you weren't trying to suck up to the commish with these picks were you? :wink: It's refreshing to see my guys recognized. I think I have more guys listed than I've had in all the other years combined. I do think you made good selections, Albert -- even the one's that weren't from my team. :)

Perhaps the outcome more pleasing than seeing Mattingly fulfill his promise has been seeing Carmen Castillo exceed my wildest expectations for his output. The move to London's "Chavez Ravine" (on the banks of the Thames) has sure invigorated my players.

Having said that, I may have given Scott the nod over my own Morris as first half Cy Young, as I'm inclined to devalue W-L in favour of ERA. But in the real world a 14-3 would garner a lot of attention.
