New Theme League TOPS

New Theme League TOPS

Postby Page2 » Tue May 19, 2009 10:08 am

Hi Guys,

Time for a new Theme League TOPS ($80mil. 2008 cards, unique stadiums):

Here is the idea using 15 different categories
AVG, HR, RBI, OBP, SLG, 2B, BB, AB, DEF, SB, W, ERA, SO, IP, & WHIP.

Whatever category you choose you get the top player at each position for that category (some adjustments have been like with RBI you get Josh Hamilton because Ryan Howard was already used for HR). Also the player had to have the majority of their games at that position to rank as a TOPS so Ichiro ranks as a RF not CF. All CAPS for a players name means that he lead the league in that category ie AB will have REYES.

When picking your team say which one you want and pick the stadium at the same time. You must keep each player listed on your TOP’s team for the entire season any trading you do can not involve these players. I did not list Furcal on any team at the TOP because of the high injury rate. If you want to draft him and have him as your SS or DH go right ahead. If you take the BB TOP’s team and would like someone else to play LF instead of Dunn at is okay but he must be your DH.

So lets see what is the most important TOP category in Strat. Going just off of money it looks like Chicks as well as Strat dig the long ball as those 8 players salaries come up to $61.17 mil. Below are the teams with the positions, players, category number, and salary. The rest of your team will be auto drafted if you should happen to get someone listed on another team be sure to drop them in the preseason. Divisions will be based on getting your team filled out and entered.

Three things:

1. You don't have a CF in the OBP category.

2. Endy Chavez is the top-rated defender in LF. Brian Anderson's #2 if you want a $1M+ player.

3. This theme is a nice idea, but I think there are too many categories, especially ones that take away better players that qualify for multiple ones. For instance, I think the all-defense team should have Ichiro in RF and Martin at C, not Gutierrez and Varitek. I'd scrap 3 of these categories and have just the minimum 12. I'd probably drop AB, BB (redundant with OBP) and SB, then reassign players from those teams.

Hi AeroDave10,

Thanks for catching the missing CF on the OBP team. The reason Crawford is listed as the top LF defender is that most of Chavez's games came in RF 60 last year to 54 for LF, same goes for Anderson 3 LF 94 CF. As far as the number of categories I will leave it the way it is someone may like a category that would get left out.

To be honest, these categories do not seem balanced, and you have grabbed one of the most powerful for yourself. It it an interesting concept, but I would encourage you to work more on balance before you put it out.
