Reasonable substitutes for Oglivie?

Reasonable substitutes for Oglivie?

Postby Bab5 » Wed Sep 14, 2005 4:40 pm

Suppose I were in a hitters park and went for Oglivie to use in a platoon but missed out on him. Who would be a good substitute?

Note that the platoon mate can play LF or RF so I could make it a RF platoon instead if needed. Also note that this is for a team not yet drafted so consider everyone on FA market.

Bake McBride was great for me in a platoon in Royals Stadium:

McBride, B. L RF 2(+1)e4 395 72 30 18 91 26 32 3 .317 .554 .352

I'd love to try him in a hitters park.

Ogilvie Rakes In Muni

Postby richswerb » Wed Sep 14, 2005 8:11 pm

Not yet well versed enough to opine, but I will say that the Ogilvie/Herndon platoon has been great for me a couple of times at Municipal. Have 9 games left in the one season, and I think Ogilvie has 40 bombs and is hitting about .260. Herndon supplies little power, but is hitting .325 in 225 AB against LHP.

One way to go of course is to just grab one of those 2-3 mil OBP guys like Devore, Heathclif et al and platoon a top of the order guy. Hitters park or no, getting one of them in a nice platoon with Clines/Alou/K**tz can be a nice component for a lineup while saving some bucks. Load up on the slugging elsewhere with the money you save. Having said that, McBride really has done well for me in multiple leagues if you can't grab Oglive. For the same bucks, Covington is obviously a stud as well vs. righties.
