Defense impact

I'm new to thew game but was wondering what you guys feel the difference between 1, 2, and 3 defensive rating is - i.e. how many runs will a good defender save. I'm really curious concerning the ss, 2b, and cf positions.

I have a choice for example between cf's hunter (5.2m 1(-3)) and crisp (3.2 2(+2)5). I'm leaning towards saving the 2m and using crisp but any thoughts on the matter?
