I was very tempted by Fontenot myself, but decided to go with Holliday's power and at least one * pitcher. I can tell I'm going to be unhappy with my choices when it gets back to me tomorrow.

Named my team the Winona Ryders. Never a fan of the franchise, always considered Shatner a major ham. Anyone remember the album he came out with and his rendition of "Lucy in the sky with diamonds"?. Ouch. Although it's probably worth a fortune on e-bay.

Oswalt or Webb....Oswalt or Webb....

Postby TomSiebert » Wed Jun 10, 2009 6:21 am

I ultimately went w/ Webb, even though he got massacred in the WATCHMEN league (didn't Oswalt, too? I couldn't find him in the stats, somebody must've dropped him). Webb had fewer total bases, far fewer HRs, better bunter....either way, I was hoping Harden would last...

I didn't even recognize Winona Ryder as Spock's mom in the new movie, Zim....I do remember thinking, "Wow, what a beautiful older woman," and was reminded what a lovely older actress can look like when she hasn't resorted to plastic surgery in an attempt to stay looking young (see: Meg Ryan, Melanie Griffith, Jessica Lange, or the terrifying Faye Dunaway)....then I read that Winona Ryder is actually 37. Yikes.

No doubt Bill Shatner can be a ham of epically profuse porcine proportions, but with a strong director to reign in his worst tendencies, he's got the acting chops. Most of his best work came when he was young, not so full of himself -- the original "Twilight Zone" episode when he plays the high-strung guy on the plane who sees a gremlin tearing apart the fuselage, he totally captures the helpless panic of the character and raises our anxiety level right along with him....I also remember seeing a low-budget 1960s Roger Corman flick called "The Intruder" in which Shatner plays a charismatic white supremacist where he's totally, chillingly convincing -- it probably has something to do with his inherent messianic complex....and, of course, there's "Wrath of Khan," the best entry in the entire Star Trek canon, a pirate movie set in space, where Shatner finally seems rejuvenated to be back playing Kirk, and gallops along with the pell-mell plot.....remember, "Khaaaaaaannnnnnnn!!!!!!!"

All that said, I was surprised when Shatner kept winning Emmy after Emmy on "Boston Legal," playing essentially himself, a self-satisfied pr!ck with preening pretensions that are obviously a facade for deep seated insecurities....I mean, one was enough, but THREE ???

tws

PS - It's too late to change my team's name now, but "Shatner's Rocketmen" would've been an AWESOME name....

I haven't seen Winona Ryder in a movie since [i:cc4527aebe]Little Women[/i:cc4527aebe], which shows how often I go to the movies. It's possible this role will make people offer her better roles (which hasn't happened since the shoplifting episode); she still looks younger than her age.

I had to decide between Oswalt and Billingsley, and went with the known quantity. Had Billingsley in the Watchmen League, and while he gave up a ton of walks, he did okay otherwise. He'll provide a good balance to Lowe, who's almost a 1L. The one problem is they're both six-inning pitchers.

up late west coast time debating nolasco/webb...or hardy/victorino...knowing it would be last.only chance for any of them. have the same experience as tws remembers with many of the starting pitchers, in fact, im the guy that had webb, but gotta grab what you can. shied away from webb this time because i have no idea what my inner infield defense will be, and that effects him greatly. killer draft, but expected as much....
