This is my first keeper league, and the draft was a fascinating experience. I went in with an intention to draft a team with some talent in 2008, with superior talent in 2009 and beyond. I was thrown off that path for a while by Rzepernick, who showed a greater commitment to the future than I, often choosing future stars like Adam Jones and Justin Upton about 2 rounds before I would have. I also realized that I had more of a strat fan lately (and not even that with the 2007 card year, which I skipped) and I had not been a serious baseball fan. Thus i saw myself out scouted in some of the early rounds on picks like Kershaw, who I knew nothing about. Through the process of this draft I did a lot to educate myself, and I will join or form a new keeper league next year, and it will be much tougher to out scout me.
through my trades with Ndowdy during the prospect picks, I was finally able to give myself the future orientation beyond just next years cards, through 3 guys who are smokin' at AA. And if Ryan Zimmerman's 2009 numbers are what I can expect from him over the next couple years (and they could be, he's only 24), then the Jones trade gave me comparative talent with a guy 13 years younger. (or course if Zim's numbers are a fluke, I sorta screwed up, Oh well)
One more frustration I wanted to mention, half of my team is on the $#@^% DL in 2009
Good luck to everyone!
