Check that rear view mirror much Stoney? :P

Choo out in the middle of a 15-gamer and I've closed the gap on O to 5 runs! :D :D :D

No worries at all Qk. I never "claimed" to be the best offense.

Gee, if I'm not mistaken, the Burgundy have the most runs scored at present. ;)

The ratings would say that San Ho and Steel City would be 1-2 in RS. Not sure how C2 and Stoney are so high right now.... :?

Jeep, Maholm may be 2-0, but he's got a 4.80 ERa and a 1.50 whip so....

NP, I definitely don't think you have the worst team in the league, but you're under on O/D and run Diff. :( Sounds like some tough breaks to me.

I'm confused, so would 0-2 with a 3.10 and 1.24 be better?

Damn, I thought it was wins that counted.

And if I hear "well the ratings say" one more time I think I'm going to have a coronary.

Sorry if I sound harsh, it's just every move I make seems to be negatively critiqued.

Hey Jeep,

Sorry man. I negatively critique every move! ;) Ask Silver! :)

I know why you made the move, you were trying to shake things up. Personally I don't care for Maholm. He's too hard and not good enough v RHB. In the end, wins are that matter, you're right.

Doesn't matter what the ratings say. Sorry bud, didn't mean to be irritating, just trying to spark conversation.

OK, I know everyone has losses like this during the year and I"m sure I've gotten some wins like this, but this is a brutal way to lose. I'm up 1-0, bottom of the 9th

[code:1:498d4c0b3b]
SUBSTITUTE P - George Sherrill
SUBSTITUTE PH- Brad Ausmus
0 B.Ausmus 2-12 Line Out (SS) b-0
SUBSTITUTE P - Joel Hanrahan
1 C.Jackson 4-3 Single (1B) b-1 gb(1B)x
SUBSTITUTE PR- Michael Bourn
1 1 Stolen Base 1-2
1 2 Stolen Base 2-3
1 3 R.Church 4-3 Single (1B) 3-H b-1 gb(1B)x
1 1 K.Suzuki 3-5 Single (LF) 1-3 b-2
1 23 C.Young 1-11 Single (CF) 3-H 2-3 b-1 bpHR 1-6
[/code:1:498d4c0b3b]

Ok, normally I have Teixeira at 1b so both of the 1bx's are probably outs, but even with Cairo, they are 1-4 singles, then a 1-6 HR/Single to win it. Ouch. Lost the game in the bottom of the 9th in game 3 too! 1-11 HR (2b the rest) to end it! C'est le SOM, I've seen a few games where we were totally lucky to win so I know they balance out.

Joe, Just to reiterate after a night to sleep on it...

Of course Maholm isn't good enough vs. RHP for your liking. That's not the point. The point is, is he going to be better than Mussina (who he was replacing) vs. all the other intangibles "from here on out". Or, going forward if you will. Remember, it was a limited pool I was picking from, wasn't like it was the 8th or 9th round of the live draft.

Just for the record, Maholm threw a complete game and went 3-0 last night. I'm 13-8 since I made the roster moves, moves that supposedly knocked 100 ratings points off my squad.

This is a game of reaction and instincts as well as numbers. So sometimes you simply just get on my nerves with all the rating stuff. (After my in-season moves/not all your other ratings which I know requires a lot of work)...This might be different from all other 11 Managers here, but I'd like to make a move or two during the season w/o hearing how it's effecting my numbers.

That said, all is cool and I understand where you're coming from.

A wise man once said,

" there's Lies, damn lies and then there's statistics..."

or something along those lines.

No offense joe, but that's kinda where I put your ratings.

I've often told you I don't understand them, but I know several people on the board swear by them, so clearly they have value. I just think, and again, your talking about someone who doesn't get'em at all so takke this with a huge grain of salt, that they tend to look at things in more of a vaccum and do not do a good job taking platoons, ballparks and manager settings into account. They may be wonderful for comparing players against each other for determining relative vaule, but I don't think they work well as a predictor of success as the NLD has shone time and again.

Jeep, hey, it's working out for you so, good. 100 points isn't really much of a difference honestly. Teams within 100 points are roughly equivalent. There are times when I'll draft or take a guy who drops the ratings for the reasons you mention. You're right about Maholm vis-a-vis Mussina, I think Mussina is overpriced personally.

Honestly, I just throw the numbers out there for conversation, whether they are right or wrong is just a reason to talk, but, if it bothers you, I won't mention how the ratings are affected by your moves. No big deal.

NP, no offense taken, I know your stance on the ratings. It's cool. I don't agree with you that the ratings aren't pretty close most of the time. They aren't perfect for sure, and it's a dice game which shows lots of variability, but overall teams come in pretty close, at least in terms of Offense and Defense. In the NLD it's hard because the team ratings come out so darn close, mostly within the margin of error that usually only a couple of teams can be considered also rans by the ratings.

Anyway, I hope no one is taking the ratings seriously, I really just publish them for fun and I hope they are fun for the rest of you. If not, I don't have to publish them.
