BONDS BOMB

Postby LMBombers » Thu Mar 09, 2006 10:19 am

Bonds should be inducted in the Hall of Shame, not the HOF. Little kids should not look up to him as a hero they want to be like. He is an embarassment to MLB.

I would much rather Pete Rose be in the HOF than Bonds. At least Rose was a team player and would do anything, within the rules, to help his team win. Bonds is all wrapped up in himself and could care less about his team or his teammates.

Too bad Barry isn't more like his Dad Bobby Bonds or his God Father Willie Mays.

My post about Ruth, Gehrig, etc. being cowards was a direct reply to the coward remarks about Bonds earlier. I've been a part of three ALS (Lou Gehrig disease) walks and should not have chosen to use that word to discribe him ever, even sarcastically. My point was only that all the major leaguers were not playing against African-Americans and it wasn't against baseball's rules, but was constitutionally morally irrehensible, just as when a large percentage of major leaguers used steroids, illegal and morally irrehensible, but just a different era and different problem baseball has had to deal with.

Jimbo said it right about his father, my grandfather, teaching his children to do right or wrong despite whether or not somebody will ever know. The man in the mirror truly is the judge of our character, but I don't know if Bonds is the type of man to feel badly about what he has done, unless he looks at his children who deal with his problems everyday.

I've spent a lot of time seemingly defending steroid use in this forum, and as I said before: I don't think it is right, but I understand, and I think we all should gain such empathy.

[quote:c5161fe24f="socalchiro"]Just wanted to add...

If Bonds isn't a Hall of Famer, Cooperstown is gonna have to get rid of a number of other "Famers" for cheating.

If I recall correctly, the spitball was once a legal pitch right? I believe there are a few pitchers who are in the H.O.F. that threw them BEFORE M.L.B. outlawed that pitch.

FWIW-As a licensed health care professional I need to add that drugs are drugs whether they are pushed OR prescribed. Let's not forget that. ALL drugs affect the body in some way AND change the chemistry of it.[/quote:c5161fe24f]

why are people defending bonds!!!!!

Because...last I remember in the USA...

We are innocent UNTIL PROVEN guilty.

If it's proven that he took steroids WHEN MLB banned them, then he's guilty. Man, we are fast to judge him. Does it look good for him?....NO

Do you guys feel the same about Big Mac and Sosa as you do about Bonds? If not why? You should...

LM, I tell you what. Print out a list of all of the H.O.F's in Cooperstown. Let's see who made the club, and we're perfect citizens AND ballplayers.

hmmm.....

I'll start. Ty Cobb.
Shot his wife, Connie Mack labeled him the "dirtiest player around", not well like by most of his teammates, went into the stands several times to attack hecklers (one time against a guy with 1 hand)

Model citizen huh?

Stan Coveleski- spitball pitcher
Ed Walsh- spitball pitcher

Both H.O.F's

Cheaters? NO

Why? The spitball use to be a legal pitch, now of course it's not.

I do feel the same about McGwire and Sosa but they are not about to shatter the all-time HR mark like Bonds is. That is why Bonds is the poster child for steroids and not the others. The all-time HR mark is a cherished record held by Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth. Aaron and Ruth are real heros of MLB. I do not want that mark surpassed by a steroid head bum like Barry Bonds.

Just because a few bad people have made the HOF means that we should not have any standards now? That is ridiculous.

If spitballs were legal pitches back in the day then those players were not breaking the rules.

by your philosophy then...

If steroids were legal by MLB rules then Bonds didn't break any rules...

I'm sure you mean well....but please do not cheapen Henry Aaron's accomplishments by saying he shares the Home Run record with anyone. Babe Ruth no longer holds any major home run records..not lifetime ...not single season ....not dinger's per ab.

Interesting Debates

Postby JohnnyBlazers » Thu Mar 09, 2006 1:18 pm

Every now and then the game makes examples of players who break the rules. Pete Rose, Joe Jackson (whether he knew what was going on in the 1919 WS is the subject of another debate), Dwight Gooden. I do think that MLB has been hypocritical of its stance on certain issues over the years (such as Steve Howe and his drug problems-how many chances did he get??), and of course, the steroid use of the last 15-20 years. MLB is a public relations business and will do what it has to do preserve its image. 10 years ago nobody cared, McGwire & Sosa were on top of the hill-well, that was then. Now, the integrity of the game is at stake. Hindsight is 20/20, but in this case it is well justified IMHO and that means posting pictures of Bonds, Palmiero, Sosa & McGwire next to the "No Gambling" signs that are at the entrance of every clubhouse. The juicing was rampant in the and the players who did so are very obvious. Giambi, McGwire, Bagwell, Sosa, Bonds are who the media portray, but I'm sure there are many many more. Bonds is an arrogant jackass who is very deserving of this backlash-I hope he retires and is never inshrined in the HOF

The only people that defend Bonds are Bonds/Giants fans.....

A defense from a guy that has a moniker that starts Socal.....

Its sorta like the blind walking the blind across the street.

Hey, at exactly 9 AM I have this "cool-aid" we are ALL going to drink at the same time......

Jump off this bridge, it'll be fine

Fall on this grenade for me

I can keep going with the analogies, but MOST of you get the drift.

And, oh, you want to go with the "it wasn't banned by baseball" defense?

FINE!!

I'll go with the citizen arrest then of Barry Bonds, on the basis, I take this upcoming book as factual. Because Steriods, unless presribed due to rehab from surgery, or an illness, is ILLEGAL IN THE USA!

Its a CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE

SO, I CAN SAY THAT BONDS WAS A DRUG USER

And, he can sue me, and I'll have the two book writers lawyers defend me.

Bonds supporters

EDIT--

A suggestion for a quick fix in the gray are that is with "unwritten" rules.....

Why cant MLB add to the rule book that ALL Federal laws, ALL the laws of EACH STATE that has a MLB team, and ALL LOCAL municipalities with MLB stadiums in them are assumed added to the MLB rulebook and those found guilty of breaking these rules would be subject to a suspension??
