Well, congrats to the Royals. We just couldn't get enough breaks tonight.
We manged to get past Olsen, but couldn't get past Jayson Nix. That stud that he is (a .125 BA last year ), went 2-3 with two RBI and a run scored. The Royals got two BP singles (1-12) that cost us runs. We missed two that could have extended innings (though we probably would have left them on anyway! )
We lost 6-2 with 10 guys left on base. We left someone in scoring position every inning but the 9th. A Rod a pair of K's, Snider (a .371 clutch hitter) two outs, Utley a fly out (missing 1-7 triple!), Snider a single, but a runner thrown out at the plate! (1-12), Cancel a K (off of a RHP) and, finally, Sizemore with a K.
That folks is why the playoffs are a crap shoot. It comes down to a few splits that go for or against one team. Or a guy like Blanton pitching over his head and a guy like Lowe getting lit up. Losing game 2 at home to Blanton was the key. We lost 3-2 and left runners in scoring position in three innings including one in which we missed a 1-11 bpsi. Ouch.
C'est le SOM. We'll get you next time. 8-) Good luck to the remaining teams.
