I think you meant you couldn't care less... :D
Good post.
I'm appalled that someone alleged the NY Post had a good article. That's downright irresponsible :P
I think it's terrible when human beings with a gift/talent/etc choose what's easy instead of what's right. McGwire can cry, and Palmeiro can blame others but these guys are living sheltered lives and it doesn't change anything. The bottom line is they're cowardly men who lack integrity. In this context, the men refers to MLB, the players union, owners, the whole lot of em.
The lack of integrity implies a character weakness, and these are the same people who also cheat on their wives, etc and take the path of least resistance when presented with a choice. How is it an excuse to say this era is so competitive--there are so many pressures they're just forced to do it. That's a cop out.
MLB has not had any leadership since Bart Giamatti passed. Bonds is no different from a mess of other spoiled stars--and MLB should be ashamed for trying to straddle the line between what's right and what's not--they--including the players' union--are reaping what they've sown.
It's all fine if there's no public controversy and these stars are making bucks for MLB. Path of least resistance for MLB too--was much easier for them to make money than to make the right decisions. It's laughable how they've come out with these ridiculous after-the-fact guidelines for steroid use. They love criminals when they make money, but hang them out to dry when they're caught.
How about this for a rule book entry: If you admit or are convicted of breaking a federal law of the US, you're banned from the game.
Then hold all levels of management responsible for the actions of people under their charge. The owner pays the whole lot of em--he sets the rules and better enforce them. If an element of the organization is found complicit, the owner better take decisive action or they shall lose their rights to the team. Period. Next owner step right up. And LEAD.
Spineless chumps leading spineless chumps.
And then there's Derek Jeter and Bernie Williams. Think they never had the chance to take the low road?
