How does the drop penalty work in Back to the 80s?

Please explain how the staggered drop penalty works, and whether or not you like it vs. the standard 20 percent used in the other formats. Thanks

5% penalty before game 42, 10% penalty before game 81, 20% penalty before game 142.

I like it and it works nicely for the mystery card concept since you're more likely to try and adjust your squad earlier rather than later.

What I don't understand about the single season format is why would you need a graduated system (other than for flexibility) since you are already dealing with a known card?

Actually, a staggered system would create more action in the single-season leagues. Even though there's no Mystery Card, each card performs differently in different parks and in different league configurations. With a more relaxed drop-add policy, you could play around with your roster more.
