help with a small ball team

Postby gamiam » Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:43 am

The team is 58-59, 4 games out of the WC. I have the feeling with a little tweak, it could make it, but I keep coming up blank. I have had some small ball success, but it isn't really my strength, as I know it is with lots of you all. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Lots of options, suggest:

Figure out who in your division you HAVE to beat

Determine the pitcher type that will give him problems, find one of these on the wire

Look for upgrade at 2B - Gman, 3B - Rolfe, 1B - Hernandez, SS-Banks, CF-Dawson or others.

Dump Lemon for targeted pitcher, Kaat, Wilson, Catfish, Key, Seaver, Cueller, others are available.

It seems to me you need a bat, Rolfe, Cooper or Dawson would be good targets depending on division makeup and best matchup.

Best of luck, sschu

I would make the bold step of cutting Bob Lemon and picking up Vuckovich and then cutting Bergman and pick up Riggs Stephenson to give Musial some protection. If Stephenson's + arm or 15 day injury gives you pause then my second choice would be to take Selkirk and obviously move Musial to 1B.

Lemon is losing most of the time anyway and the pickup should aid you with the other 3 ptchers.

Another possibility is to lose both Bergam and Bishop and go to Heathcote and Gehringer. But I would do one of those moves
