Back to the 80's Personal Manifesto

Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Postby FletchGriswold » Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:22 pm

Wow guys - this is some deep stuff. All of your opinions are great and it's really everyone here that makes this game so incredible. Just like Sean, here's my 2 cents:

If TSN doesn't change a thing and continues to ignore our suggestions, will I still play?....I'd like to agree with BJ, but I'm afraid I'd have to say yes. This game, as is - IS better than no game at all. I'm on my 63rd team and I think my addiction to this game may be more intense than anyone else (I don't think that's bragging, but maybe a plea for help  )

The Mystery Card is definitely the direction TSN should go to keep building new customers. I recently purchased my first ever ATGII team during the 1/2 price firesale, and although I loved the variety of players reaching back into the 70's, I am once again bored to death. I don't want to start ripping on the single season games on this thread, but geez.....this Mystery Card thing is UNBELIEVABLE!

My final thought is the TWEAKING. I'm not a big advocate of loading up a bunch of new players for the 80's game, but definitely a few new faces would help spruce things up. Not all star players, either. For every Tom Seaver, there needs to be a Brian Harper or Steve Lombardozzi (can you tell I'm a Twins fan?...) I don't think the variety of salary caps is anywhere close to being as important and some new names and adjusted salaries for the existing players. What I would love to see is a Back to the 70's and a back to the 90's league...or a way to incorporate all three decades into a MODERN ERA ATGIII Mystery Card League. Now I'm starting to drool :D I'm not sure what age range we have playing this game - myself, being born in '73, I can't get into the 60's players and earlier. I'd assume most of us here are in the 25-40 age group....

Well, that was more like my 7 or 8 cents, but for what it's worth, right?...

Long live the 80's and come on Bernie, give us something we can look forward to!

BJS for Pres-O-Dent

Postby YountFan » Fri Mar 10, 2006 10:25 pm

BJS, you are a fine thinking man who has his heart in the right place. I want you as Pres-O-Dent of TSN/Start-O-Matic operations. Come on boy, make Bernie his Christmas bonus!

I am with you Fletch and I had to read far down this thread to see someone ask for it....give us the 60's, 70's or 90's. I love (and often hate) the mystery card!!

I haven't played as many teams as BJS and allot of the vets, so I don't have the same perspective or sense that the game is broken or in need of anything. I find each season a new challenge and enjoy the brotherhood of this "cult". I have never tried any other format as I don't think any could be better.....

Hey TSN.....listen up to the ones who make this game fun for the rest of us. What good would it be to lose the people who have the passion to continuosly help the newbies and keep the game competitive. We all want to say we beat a BJS, Fletch, Abner, Sykes, or that Panzer Ace guy! Where's the challenge for the rest of us if we lose them?

[quote:dcc878e49b]BJ,

I got up this morning and read your post, and said to myself, "oh (expletive), either BJ has been drinking heavily again, or it's time for his wife to get dressed up in that HOT flannel shirt and her sexiest tube sox for a little nookie for BJ ....[/quote:dcc878e49b]

You neglected option #3:

or it's the result of [b:dcc878e49b]Outta Leftfield AKA Panzerace Jr.[/b:dcc878e49b] kicking my rear end all over the map the last 3-4 weeks (and still continuing) and I'm almost powerless to stop it.

Hell, I don't know, it could have been all three of those things last night... I'll never tell though.

[quote:dcc878e49b]I respect you tremendously, I think you know that. I consider you a friend, and I'm not against you on this. I simply think that Bernie et al at Strat/TSN have been forthright with us through problems, and I respect that.
[/quote:dcc878e49b]

It's all good. We're friends. I got a lot of respect for you too. You're one of the guys that constantly makes me laugh here. So thanks.

By the way, when are you going to approve that "Testamonial" I left for you on your TSN profile page, you chucklehead? I only sent that out about 3 months ago.

Yeah, I'm not mad at Bernie. I was pretty hot last night though so it sounded personal when that really wasn't my intention either. So I apologize in advance, Bernie, for when you decide to read this thread 2 months from now. :P

Honestly, since I've spent my entire career in management, I can honestly say that staying around and weathering the storm through [b:dcc878e49b]Servergate[/b:dcc878e49b] was pretty darn admirable. Even I started to sense the nervous breakdown thing coming on before you had even mentioned it. I wish I could hire more guys and gals with that type of mental toughness and tenacity because they're so hard to find.

The point is that we want some customer service too. We don't ask for much but we do ask. We've been asking and asking for a couple of years now. Our money is good too. (Except for Sean's.)

There's enough community here to help out with the details and maybe some of the harder stuff too. Sykes has mentioned that he could find some time to help and I would also though my skill set is a little more different.

There is very little communication and feedback in this forum on the part of the TSN staff. If the 80's game is going to get some type of upgrade why not just comment on it here instead of saying the cryptic, "it will be improved in due time," when we ask you about it.

Tell us some action items you'd like to implement and let us give you some feedback. Give us an approximate timeline and maybe clue us in what you have to accomplish first in the other formats in order to get workin' on the 80's. Communication is the key.

My only worry about the timeline in 2006 is that you are probably up to your neck in trying to get 2006 out to market by April 5. Then I'm sure that there will be about 1 month or 2 to make sure that 2006 is running like a top. After that I envision, based on your own words, that you'll be looking to tweak the engines for bullpen logic and other things. Does that relate to all the formats or just 200X? In between all of that there will be development for whatever you guys feel you [i:dcc878e49b]need[/i:dcc878e49b] to do to ATG2.

By the time you get through all of that I'm thinking that it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas or Thanksgiving. Holiday season and then, it's time to ramp up for SOM 2007. AARGH!

That's how I think and I can't help myself because I have to manage people and projects all of the time. So as you can see, I'm a little concerned that "in due time" means 2007 and that stinks considering that what we want doesn't appear like more than month's worth of work. (Interface change. Variable salary caps. And other little tweaks like fixing some of the player card salaries that are out of proportion. 10-20 more player cards would be nice also but I don't know how that all works for the license.)

Some of us would be ok with that timeline, I'm sure, as long as the goals are achieved. Myself, I just want open communication, realistic times and dates for implementation, and what we can expect.

Lastly, I'd like to see some of our newbie help threads posted as stickies so that our new players can find them and reference them. It helps TSN and their customers.

[b:eb0db3b098]BJ Simpson's Manifesto (That's Alright)[/b:eb0db3b098]

BJ's got his manifesto rattling round his brain...that's alright
Sometime I think we're crazy, man it's just a game...that's alright

BJ used to used to be happy man
That was until his life turned to Strat

Some people are asking for changes, changes to the game...that's alright
I guess I'd be happy if things just stayed the same...that's alright

BJ used to have a happy life
Until Strat he had a happy wife

BJ's filled with envy for the other games...that's alright
The man is a genuis, he's got a right to complain...that's alright

Improve the game is his battle cry
Holdin his 80's flag up high

BJ's thinking margins he's thinkin' P&L
When BJ's drinkin' his strat life go to hell

Directly from the maifesto of BJ Simpson, one of the greatest thinkers and Strat-O-Matic managers of all time...
[i:eb0db3b098]I don't know if it's burnout starting to set in, frustration, or a combination of the two but I've started loathing over the future direction of this game from TSN. As much as I love playing Back to the 80's, I am fed up with the amount of inaction that TSN has taken with supporting and marketing this product. It has such potential to go the next level but to no avail. [/i:eb0db3b098]

Groovy licks and it's got a beat I can really dance to! I'm feelin' the love. The love of the 80's revolution.

Holy cow. Thanks for helping the cause because I [b:aa82177155][i:aa82177155]know[/i:aa82177155][/b:aa82177155] for a fact that people would rather listen to a rock song than to read through 40 pages of text containing manic drivel. LOL

3 tunes. You're only 6 or 7 away from an album. Keep rockin' YF! Viva la revolucion.

Yeah, that's why you need me to boil your stuff down so it can be consumed by the masses. You put a lot of thought in the your manifesto and various supporting documents, but this is a message board and you gotta keep it simple.
