market? Could always use a good tip. I am hoping Fed telegraphs raise soon or we are going to create another bubble that has to burst screwing the little guy even more.

I just read these posts. I have been doing SOMDRAFT drafts for about 5 years. I have never been part of a draft where people "knowingly" went over assuming that they have an extra 500,000 to spend because of the end roster requirements.
I certainly WOULD have drafted differently over the last 7 or 8 rounds knowing that this would not be frowned on. I think that each person who did this should drop a player in order to get under OR allow EVERYONE in the last round to go an extra 500,000 above the salary cap to even it out.
My 2 cents

Sneezedoc, we are playing with the HAL-enforced 60 mil cap (that is, a hard cap). Go ahead and draft with an extra 0.5 mil (to 60.5 mil), but you'll need to substitute a cheap 0.5 mil player for one of your 1.0+ players in order to make the autodraft. Then, after the autodraft, immediately cut the cheap 0.5 mil player and pick up the player you drafted.

I can't believe it will make a difference. The bottom line is a 60 mil cap and I would think everyone drafted their favorites within the first 20 rounds.

Again, I think that, to be fair, the substitute 0.5 player should be a crappy one, not one of the good 0.5 players.

And where is BrandonCraig?

But really appreciate playing with you veterans for the comeraderie and challenge from league to league. I am thoroughly enjoying the leagues and moving quickly up the learning curve. Thanks for continuing league to league and I look forward to next challenge even if I do miss some of the guys not drafted .look forward to next league as well. What other formats are popular?

Not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers but I always understood that the cap was 'hard' for 25 players. I am not going to change my strategy for the last pick at this point but instead of one of my 500,000 pitchers, might well have done a 1 million pitcher in round 20 (when there were still some scraps to fight over)...now truthfully what is left is roster (or not even) roster filler.....

Overall though, I am really enjoying this 1969 experience with you guys... I love this set of cards (reminds me of my childhood) and being in theme leagues like this insure that the leagues will fill and be played.

KEEP 'EM COMING!

Sorry - I hadn't check this Message Board until just today.

I am the one that set this league up in SOMDRAFT - in retrospect, I should have used a $60 Million format to avoid any complications. It wasn't done intentionally to give anyone any advantage.

From this point, let's work together to get the league going. A few more picks are left; those that kept within the $60 million parameters (like me) will have no issues when it is time to fill out the autodraft card. Those that went over will need to make the approriate salary cuts to get to the magic $60 Million mark either at the time of the autodraft (preferred) or at the time immediately after the autodraft runs.

SETTING UP THE LEAGUE: The league should be set up as $60 Million (so that we don't need to police ourselves) AND I believe that we need to use WAIVERS. I am open to discussion on the second point (WAIVERS vs. FRENZY), but using the $60 Million League is the correct way to go.

Let's not get too upset with anyone here; while it would have a different mindset on some picks knowing that a "hard cap" was not being followed by all, the difference between Kranepool and Lahoud will be minimal.

If you drafted using the "hard cap", you will have some extra salary cap available when you drop to 24 players.

Thank you for the voices of reason here. It's hard to believe after the leagues and drafts we have been in together, that some of you think I'd be thumbing my nose at anyone. Or deliberately trying to deceive or cheat. That is very disheartening. I am a fair play guy in everything I do. I don't get any thrill from cheating at strat. This was a matter of knowing we could have 24 person rosters and that I would indeed carry 24.

If I draft a 0.5M player with my 26th pick I would be over by $0.35M. The legal roster is 24 players once we are set-up. It honestly never occured to me that this would make a difference and than any of you would mind or do it differently. We talked about drafting fewer players at one point earlier in the draft. I understand others did this unknowingly and I was just saying honestly that I did it deliberately. In retrospect maybe I would do it differently knowing that it caused some consternation.

I aplogogize and will accept whatever you guys want to make it right. but will not check in until later tonight or tomorrow morning.

Following The Rules

Postby GordieHowe » Fri Aug 14, 2009 9:08 am

Just throwing my two cents in here. I asked on this message board rounds earlier to clarify what the rule was about drafting under the cap. Everyone should have followed the hard cap, OR it should have been made clear in the beginning that the drop to 24 players to clear the cap was allowed and an effective strategy. I know I was plotting my last seven picks together after round 18 and my team would have one major difference on the roster if I knew I could have gone over. What happened has given those who went over a slight advantage when it's all supposed to be even. RJ and I now know to clarify this before future drafts and strategize accordingly.

Life goes on, however. There's nothing that can be done to remedy this and it's a relatively minor issue (as long as Phil Roof has the best season of his life). I appreciate being part of this fine group of Strat players.
