Use the ATGIII menu. It works for the latest 200X games also.

I don't even really have a big problem with Casey Blake(can do a little of everything) or Jammie Carroll(great defense, good OBP), but I just think you could really pimp that lineup out, if you were to let go of Albert Pujols, Roy Halladay,.. or both. It seems to me, that you may pick your team based on some of your favorite guys;..there is nothing wrong with that, I am sure we all do it to some degree,...BUT you have to decide; do you want a team full of your favorite guys? Or do you want to win a championship?

And by the way, even if you break the team up, get rid of Pujols and Halladay, to make the team deeper, and possibly stronger, there is still no guarantee you will be successful,... but I have found I have more fun playing a 96 win playoff team, then I do a mediocre team filled with my favorite players.

My opinion, Never spend more than 9 million on a single player(80 million cap). Spread that money around. Balanced teams with long lineups usually make the playoffs. Who wants a late 1980s Cubs team with an MVP Andre "The Hawk" Dawson, and a last place finish. Give me the complete team that is still playing when most teams have been eliminated.

Good luck no matter what you decide, its all about having fun.

I vote for keeping Pujols and Halladay. They define this team, and it will be fun having both. I'm not saying the advice to drop them is bad. However, I usually like to have a vision for a team when I draft. For example, build around such-and-such player(s) or go extra heavy on defense or whatever.

I've usually regretted it when I changed that vision before the season starts.

I've toyed with the possibility of dropping or trading Pujols and/or Halladay from the beginning, but that is a huge decision to make and missing them in the lineup/rotation could have potentially negative effects. I'm worried that what I get to replace them, may not be good enough to compensate for the loss of statistics. I'm still open to the possibility, but it has to be a move that I really feel good about.

As far as using favorite players, I have been guilty as charged in the past, and am still guilty to a degree in Chavez, but he's the only one on this team I picked up as a favorite. It's only a small increase in price and he provides excellent overall defense. I will get rid of him if I need the extra money before the season starts.

halladay is more than 10% of your budget. He will only have an effect on 25% of your games. Pujols can effect every single game. Ive used halladay a couple of times and he was not dominant.

I like Coyote's advice about sticking to your initial plan, and building around the players you decided to work with in the first place. My advice was pretty vague. And just because I do not like to spend 10 or more million on a single player does not mean it is a bad idea.

The most important thing now(that the season started) is that you stick to your guns(and team) no matter what happens early on, and ride out what you have built. Blowing a team up in the middle of the season almost never works with salary cap Strat baseball.

Also, since the most important goal should be to have fun, there is nothing wrong with having some favorite players on your team. Especially since you mentioned it is just one roll type player that you are keeping as a favorite. And he does have a nice glove for a backup. Good luck.

Technically, Scott Shields is on the team for the same reason. He serves a useful role however as the guy to get lefties out. For those looking at the stats the save he got is coincidence. He actually bailed out my closer Fuentes when he failed to get an out in a save situation in game 2.

Actually, if you look at the rolls in the 9th inning, I'm lucky it didn't turn into an ugly loss.

Thanks to everyone for all the great advice. I hope it pays dividends for the season. =)

Freddie Sanchez

[quote:afc2793002="rmilter"] Get some more hitters (OBP guys). I do not like[b:afc2793002] Freddy Sanchez [/b:afc2793002]for this season. He does not walk or get on base enough. Guys like Freddy Sanchez can not do either [BB, sb or hit a HR). [/quote:afc2793002]

SF's Aug trade to acquire Freddie for stretch run looks like an ill fated move, acquistion. He recently missed 7 st gms w/ a bum shoulder & now they finally DLd him. That said, hes a former batting king & still kills LHPs.
