balmer, I didn't know you were once a professional movie reviewer! I am too, except I've never been paid for it! I couldn't agree more with your QT analysis! was completely baffled by the fawning over killbill and grindhoue by so called respected critics, who are now all hailing our league themed movie, which ive also yet to see. My assumption, based on his recent track record, in which I can wait for cable to confirm my suspicion that it's trash. my assumption is that QT uses the WWII motif for endless blood and guts, and my understanding is we see detailed scalpings in it. I still love Resevoir Dogs, but have to admit the toture sequence with Michael madsenand the cop, nearly ruined the whole movie for me. It was just TOO graphic and mean spirited. But I loved the opening sequence, in fact everything with Lawrene Tierney in it, especially the Mr. Blonde, Mr. Pinki, I don't want to be pink, hence my team name. Don't share your affection for True Romance, much of which was good, but the ending was prepostorous, and the wrapup on the beach made me puke. Notice the ending for Dogs and Romance is virtually identical with multiple sources aiming guns at on another.
And...
the most accurate description of all on Hostel, Saw and the like. It's porn for violence freaks, much like when Stone went off the deep end in Natural Bon Killers. In fact, Stone has had a similar career. Smashing debut and first two films, plus JFK, brilliant film making of an opium dream. I don't know what's more disturbing, that movies like Hostel are even made, and endlessly sequelled, or that they're popular enough to be so. Can't imagine what someone already on the edge is like when they come out of those.
Now, if you want to see a great, original, scary and hilarious flick, rent or order Drag Me to Hell...loved it.
