Y2K Small Market League - Manager Needed

Y2K Small Market League - Manager Needed

Postby pwootten » Tue Sep 15, 2009 11:57 am

A number of managers who are in the last year of a 2001-08 league are starting back at the beginning with a new concept. There might be some teams available. We'll know for sure soon.

The Y2K Small Market League will begin with 2001 and proceed through the most current set of cards. Here are the league rules. They are a little tricky at first, so follow closely.

First, the easy part:
- $60M Rosters.
- Only Players with salaries of $3M or less are eligible.
- 5-Round Draft here on the board, followed by autodraft for rest of roster.
- 25-man rosters at all times.
- Standard Waivers.

Now for the tricky part:

1. If a player is drafted in 2001 who also is eligible for 2002 (under $3M) he is considered "under contract" for both years and cannot be cut. For example, Angel Berroa is $1.05 in 2001 and $.89 in 2002. If Berroa is taken in 2001 he must be kept for 2002. The same goes for a player who is carded for 3 straight years or more. Brad Ausmus is the ultimate example. He has sub $3M cards EVERY YEAR from 2001-2008. If you draft Brad, you keep Brad.
2. Players with a card in one year, but not the following can be cut as usual. The exception would be players who fit the description above. Berroa could not be cut in 2002 if you owned him in 2001.

Why the rules? It gives some continuity to the league and makes the drafting of players much more important. Do you draft Craig Counsell and his strong 2001 and 2002 seasons, knowing you have to keep him for some pretty bad seasons in 2003 and 2004? The choice is yours.

I have the spreadsheet of players and their eligible years, thanks to Rob Latorre.

Anyway, league sign-ups will first be open to Old School Genius carry-overs. I'll also take alternates on a first-come, first-served basis. Returning managers have priority until Thursday evening at 6:00 PM.

The "Super 8"

Postby pwootten » Tue Sep 15, 2009 1:25 pm

These are the 8 special men who were somehow able to retain their mediocrity for the duration of the entire 2001-08 stretch. The 8 men who are carded at <$3M each and every year . . .

- Ausmus
- Bako
- Barajas
- Blum
- Castro
- Lohse
- Mackowiak
- Villone

Gotta have managers, Bill. We're a bit thin in that department.

I am a little busy right now, but if nobody signs up for a week or two, I probably will.
