I had a crazy draft strategy of going for all 5 of my RP before I selected any SP. I think the depth of RP is much less and I knew everyone would be going for SP before RP so I would get 5 hopefully decent RP and could still manage with what was left of the SP to patch together a rotation. Also I could upgrade my rotation with 1 or 2 new SP after the first couple of years maybe.

So I ended up with Tug McGraw, Granger, Hilgendorf, Bob Miller and Locker as my 5 RP. World beaters? No, but I have found success with each of them on other teams. What did that leave me for a rotation? Well the top 4 are:

Joe Niekro (good through the 80's and has low BPHR)
Jim Perry (only for 3 seasons but I still felt lucky to get him so late)
Steve Hargan
Dock Ellis
#5 still to be determined but will be a sub 3M guy

I'm fairly happy with that for picking them all so late.

I'm looking at a lineup something like this:

3B Buford
2B Cash
CF Murcer
RF Reggie (Smith that is)
1B Blomberg
LF Hisle
C Dietz
SS Alley (the only really yucky one)

I'm pretty happy (before any card reveals  )

Rotation- Arguably the best drafted, with 3 of 4 going into the 80's if desired.
Ryan
Blyleven
John
Phil Niekro

RP- Not great, but servicable since I won't need much RP in season 1
McMahon
Richert

1B- Norm Cash, Spencer
2B- Dave Johnson, Boswell
SS- Bill Russell
3B- Brooks Robinson
LF- McRae, McCraw, Dave Marshall
CF- Matty Alou
RF- Hickman
C- Rodriguez, Hundley

I like have 2 catchers for the next 2-3 years an not having to think. SS is a liability for defense, but that is an issue for most everybody year 1. OF corner D is weak, but their BATS will make up for it. Russell goes to RF and .75er goes in at SS.

I like my chances for year 1 to make the playoffs.

My division's gonna be interesting with Fenway, Fulton County, Memorial and my Yankee Stadium. My team could be really good or really bad:

SP
Blue
Palmer
May
Renko

RP
Frisella
Timmermann

C- Kirkpatrick/Bateman
1B- Watson
2B- Rojas
SS- Speier
3B- Hebner/Rodriguez
LF- Carbo
CF- Cardenal/E.Maddox/Pinson
RF- R.Jackson

I already have changes planned. :)

Here's my squad.

SP
Carlton
Reed
Marichal
Cleveland

Somehow I've gotten really good results from Cleveland in the 70s, hopefully that will continue. Marichal is a crapshoot, but he was lights out in 1971 last time (best pitching year of that entire league history).

RP
Brewer
Taylor
Knowles

Haven't used these guys much. We'll see.

C: Munson, Dyer
1b: Mincher (1 year, needed a LH bat badly)
2B: Beckert/Sizemore
SS: Patek
3b: Bailey
LF: Brock
CF: Unser/Stanley platoon (ugh)
RF: Staub/Mota platoon

If I can get Marichal, Beckert, and Bailey to have their outstanding seasons I may have a chance :) I'm missing a big bopper in my lineup-if I had to draft again I'd probably have taken McCovey or Allen rather than Thurman. I have plenty of cap space, so hopefully my early pick in 1972 can easily be integrated into my team :)

someone from the east needs to create the league so we can get going. What are the divisions anyway?

I can start the league, but will have to wait until 8 or so.
