Sorry, but I don't know if I understand the draft part of this league. Is it based on the state lottery, we get draft pick rankings and then we start picking a half team and then serpentine the draft order and pick the 2nd half of your team? and then do it over again to get a total of 4 halves? How long does this take, if this is what happens?

Ehlekev - You are correct on the process. Normally it will be a couple of days, possibly less, depending on how often people check in.

Tonight's lottery results for the states we selected will be put in order from 1-12 with the highest number first all the way down to the lowest number at # 12. Round 1 will be 1-12. Round 2 will be 12-1. Round 3 will be 1-12 again and finally Round 4 will be 12-1. This is called a serpentine draft.

You can select a team's hitters or pitchers at any time as long as you end up with 2 team's pitchers and 2 team's hitters. It doesn't matter if you end up with the same team's pitchers and hitters.

For example if you really want San Diego's hitters and you end up with the #1 overall pick you can select SAN DIEGO HITTERS as your draft pick. If you had that #1 overall pick you would then wait for the rest of the 1st round to go and then wait again all the way to the last pick of the 2nd round for your next selection. The #1 draft position would then have back to back picks (last pick of round 2 and first pick of round 3). At any time you may select hitters or pitchers but must end up with 2 of each after 4 rounds.

The strategy involved will be when to take hitters, when to take pitchers and what 2nd team best matches up with the hitters or pitchers you have already taken. This will be great fun!

If anyone else has questions please post them now before the draft starts. I, or someone else, will be glad to answer them for you so that we are all on the same page.

Thanks Randy. I get it. I will alert my war room that we need to be ready to make decisions. My War Room is defined as: my fiance and her 2 cats. They helped me pick my 7-14 Mets in our best teams league. They are close to all being fired.

Sounds like fun to me (not the cats, but the draft itself). I'm looking forward to the stadium pick "twist" portion of the draft.

The 1969 season lends itself nicely to these type of theme leagues with 24 teams (some great ones and some really crappy ones) to mix and match!

One question: Any team name parameters that we should go after? It might be hard to throw 4 team names or cities into the team name, but it might be interesting.

Thanks for organizing!

I'll let Ado_Jake make the official answer on this but if you did use all of your 4 half team names it might look something like this: AtlantaCalifornia PadresOrioles. That seems a little silly and confusing to me.

Several points of clarification:

1.) LM has a good point on the team names. Although not crucial, I would suggest that we use the city and nickname of our pitching staffs as a way to at least identify the pitching portion of the team. However, feel free to use whatever you like, its not a big deal.

2.) The division alignment is based on the same lottery we use tonight to determine the 4 round draft.

1-4-7-10
2-5-8-11
3-6-9-12

3.) A second lottery after the 4 round draft lottery will determine the stadium draft. Unless someone has any objections, I think we should just use tomorrow nights lotto for the stadium draft. That way we can roll right into drafting the stadiums after completion of the 4 round team draft, rather than waiting an extra day. IF ANYONE OBJECTS, post it here. No response will be taken that you are OK with this. I don't have any strong feelings either way. Just thinking using tomorrow's will keep everything moving along.

4.)Just incase there is still any question on the stadium draft - we will hold the second pick 3 lottery (which I suggested for tomorrow night in point 3 above) to determine draft order of stadiums. High 1st, down to low. When it is your turn to draft a stadium, you declare which team in your division gets the stadium you are picking. Since there are 4 teams per division, once a stadium is declared for that team, they are essentially done, and nobody else in that division could name a stadium for them. Unique stadiums applies, so that stadium is out of the draft.

Basically you look at the teams in your division and pick which stadium screws them over the most. Example, teams A, B, C, and D in East Division. When the stadium draft pick for Team A comes up, they look at the rosters for Teams B, C, D in their division. Lets say Team D is loaded with RH hitting power. Team A may want to choose Yankee Stadium to screw up Team D's RH power.

Keep in mind you can always use any of the players on the two 1/2 teams you draft. So team D can "remake" their line-up using any of their other players.

Advise if you have any questions or suggestions. Let's have some fun with this.

Is there a set "draft time"? Or do we just move through this as quick as we can (using proxies, etc...)?

Should be fun! Go Delaware Lotto!
