The 4-round draft-(West:to get your teams in)

Postby MARCPELLETIER » Fri Sep 25, 2009 11:41 am

Question: Since hawk still has 6 picks to go, why are we submitting our teams to the new league? How do I know that my pick #25 is not someone that hawk might want?

Yeah, good point. Well, if it happens, I guess we just trade the player to hawk.

Problem is resolved for the future as the Draft is over.

marcus wilby, this is all your fault...

marcus wilby, this is all your fault! Because of your new-fangled draft structure, I was able to draft 16 of my top 17 choices -- 8 hitters, 6 SPs, a closer, and my top RP. This is far better than I've ever done in an autodraft league.

Oh, and the one that got away? Utley was selected in pick #2, so I was forced to take Pedroia in pick #3. :~)

Now I have no excuse if this team does not perform well. It'll all be on me!

On the other hand, with an infield of (Miguel) Cabrera, Pedroia, Reyes and Cantu, I'm hoping for 100 homeruns there -- along with 100 more from an outfield of Lee, Ankiel and Dunn.

There may be some adventures in fielding, but that'll just add a bit of comic relief, right?

And one more first (for me): The batch drafting allowed me to get a pitching staff that has a grand total of [b:c6ddae3086]one[/b:c6ddae3086] BPHR vs. RHB and [b:c6ddae3086]zero[/b:c6ddae3086] BPHR vs. LHB, so we should hit homers but not give up a bunch of 'em.

This should be interesting. Let's play ball...

I am relatively satisfied, given my selection rank. I was hoping to load my offense of players with high on-base. Had I chosen first overall, I think I would have chosen Markakis, Spilborghs, and Kinsler, so that yiedls me a 50% rate, despite my picking 11th. I was hoping for Upton or Span at cf, and I let them go for the second round. I never considered that hendrix would draft both!!! But after consideration, I'm pretty happy with Hunter, as he'll have the role to drive some runs in.

(EDIT~~~~~~My other first-round picks would have been: Mauer (6th), Furcal (7th) and Berkman (9th), which means any rank within the first five selections and I would have got my dream team, offensively speaking, at least.)

Knowing that Furcal would not last, I was settling for Theriot and hendrix, again, didn't let him go. Not too happy about Izturis. Not too happy about Lee at first base. Not too happy about my catching situation.

I was hoping for Oswalt as my #4 SP, but hendrix...well, you get the story. Otherwise, my first three SPs are those I was looking for in a context of low offense

I think I made the right decision to go with bench/supportive-role players as early as the second round, with my Romero pick. In fact, with hindsight, I think I should have also pass on Maholm and pick E.Chavez as my bench player for Spilboroghs. There are still a few *SP in the FA list whom I would feel confortable with as my 4th SP.

i'm thinking i got too much into my pitching. the branyanesk experiement at 1b with dobbs should prove to be interesting to say the least.

also thinking i should have gone with yankee stadium.

fun stuff to be able to basically build your team in three rounds.
