24 team keeper

Postby tcochran » Tue Sep 01, 2009 10:31 am

Hopefully, the delays in forming the 24-team league will just be speed bumps and not barriers.

It does appear, however, that when formed, the 24-team league will be playing a fairly traditional late Spring/late Summer schedule -- which is fine with me.

I still like the idea of a league with later seasons, too, however, so I've started a new 12-team Summer - Winter Keeper League at http://forums.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?p=4785934#4785934

While we wait for the 24-team league to fill, please join me in the Summer - Winter one, too!

I like the idea of this 24 team being a winter league as well. I'd also love to join tcochran's 12 team winter league too. However, if this thing does ever get off the ground, I don't want to be in too many leagues.

So, hopefully, this 24 team gets a second wind and we some more sign ups here soon.

Thanks for the invite tcochran.

NBA style draft lottery

Postby kimkrichbaum2 » Mon Oct 05, 2009 1:24 am

The first 3 draft position of the first round or each draft (except for our initial draft) are determined by weighted draft lottery of all non-playoff teams. This includes, regular yearly draft, prospect draft and supplemental draft. All other draft choices and all other rounds are chosen in reverse order of finish
The lottery works like this, We have a list of five states, WI, AZ, CT, NJ, and CA, in this order.
You designate a day for the draft lottery, and take the pick 3 of the first state (WI) and use the chart below to determine who receives the first choice. you use AZ to choose the second choice, and CT to choose the third. If any of the first 3 states are duplicates (say WI and AZ numbers both choose the team with the 23rd best record, than we use the last two states (NJ and CA). If after 5 states, we still have not chose 3 choices, then we go in reverse order after the choices that have been chosen.

Regular and prospect lotteries should be drawn separately, despite the fact they happen at the same time of year/

[u:607f922513]Record of Team pick 3 #[/u:607f922513][/b:607f922513]

worst team 001-210
23rd best team 211-370
22nd best team 371-490
21st best team 491-580
20th best team 581-660
19th best team 661-730
18th best team 731-790
17th best team 791-840
16th best team 841-880
15th best team 881-910
14th best team 911-934
13th best team 935- 954
12th best team 955-968
11th best team 969-978
10th best team 979 -985
9th best team 986-990
8th best team 991-994
7th best team 995-997
6th best team 998-999
5th best team 000

example: On the day of the draft the numbers are WI 862, AZ-196, CT-32, NJ-560, The first choice goes to the team with the 16th best record, because of WI 862, the second choice goes to the team with the worst record because of AZ - 196, the 3rd choice would also have gone to the worst team, but the same team can not have 2 draft choices, so we got to the tiebreaker state, NJ, and the 560 means the 3rd choice goes to the team with the 21st best record. the 5th state is not needed.
The 4th pick goes to the team with the second worst record, and from this point on we go in reverse order of W-L record among teams who did not draw a high choice.

the reason for this system is to blunt competition to finish last, which this year could be called the Steven Straussberg sweepstakes)

I like what you have put together litangel. The only thing I would maybe tweak a little is the number of teams in the lottery. I would think that the difference between the best team and...say...the 8th team is going to be marginal. I would think at least 8 teams will be in the hunt for the playoffs each season and, therefore, would not be trying to tank the season anyway. What are your thoughts on doing this same style draft for 12 or 16 teams instead of all of the teams that don' t make the playoffs? This will give the worst teams a little better odds of improving quicker too.

Also, since you've develped this great idea, would you mind being the draft czar and take care of everything related to the drafts? I think this is going to be a daunting task to attempt to do everything on my own. I've never run a Strat league before and could use the help.

Thanks,
Chuck

That's a good idea Chuck, using only 12 teams for the draft lottery I can simplify it.
I am willing to help and oversee parts of the draft, I am willing to do the regular state lottery and determine order, announce, and work with any problems that come up during the draft. [b:767aade4af]I would need some help setting up the draft on the som draft site[/b:767aade4af]. I tried to do that once and couldn't quite figure it out. Either someone could give me some detailed instructions or someone can do that part. I'm OK either way. I'd actually like to learn it.
I also don't have the right software to do a spreadsheet after the draft. so someone else will have to do that.

So here is an amended NBA style draft lottery.

The first 3 draft position of the first round or each draft (except for our initial draft) are determined by weighted draft lottery of the twelve teams with the worst records. This includes, regular yearly draft, prospect draft and supplemental draft. All other draft choices and all other rounds are chosen in reverse order of finish
The lottery works like this, We have a list of five states, WI, AZ, CT, NJ, and CA, in this order.
You designate a day for the draft lottery, and take the pick 3 of the first state (WI), [b:767aade4af]using only the last two numbers[/b:767aade4af] and use the chart below to determine who receives the first choice. you use AZ to choose the second choice, and CT to choose the third.

Record of Team-last two numbers of pick 3 #

worst team 01-24
23rd best team 25-41
22nd best team 42-54
21st best team 55-64
20th best team 65-72
19th best team 73-79
18th best team 80-85
17th best team 86-90
16th best team 91-94
15th best team 95-97
14th best team 98-99
13th best team 00

example: On the day of the draft the numbers are WI-1(94), AZ-7(08), CT-3(19), NJ-8(66), The first choice goes to the team with the 16th best record, because of WI 94, the second choice goes to the team with the worst record because of AZ - 08, the 3rd choice would also have gone to the worst team, but the same team can not have 2 draft choices, so we got to the tiebreaker state, NJ, and the 66 means the 3rd choice goes to the team with the 20st best record. the 5th state is not needed.
The 4th pick goes to the team with the second worst record, and from this point on we go in reverse order of W-L record among teams who did not draw a high choice.

Thank you so much litangel, great work. I will take care of rosters and the spreadsheets (I'm going to copy ninersphan's and use them as my own...I hope this does infringe upon his copyright).

I have never administered the draft sight either. I've used it for a few drafts but never set one up. I'm sure someone can help us with that.

Now that we have specifics for the free agent/prospect drafts, I can post the rules on a new thread. I will complete them by tonight and post them on the [color=red:37cbbab74b]Indivdual League Chat thread as 24 TKL Chat[/color:37cbbab74b]. Once the rules are posted and we have the confirms from everyone, we will use that thread for all public messaging.
