Outfielders eligibility rule

Outfielders eligibility rule

Postby RICHARDMILTER » Tue Oct 20, 2009 1:50 am

I apologize if I have mentioned this in an earlier post.

The original Strat-O-Matic rules and the CD- ROM both allow you to play CFs (such as Coco Crisp, Grady Sizemore, Willy Taveras) in both left and right fields even if they never appeared their in real life. I really wish TSN would adopt this rule that already exists in the other forms of Strat.

Any thoughts on this?

Yeah, the original rule allows you to play outfielders anywhere. CF is considered the most difficult position, followed by rightfield. Therefore, you could simply apply +1 to the rating of a leftfielder that you wanted to play in right or +2 if you wanted him in center. Or, you could move a rightfielder to center by adding +1. A centerfielder maintained the same rating everywhere (no improvement at other positions).
I wondered about this rule the first time I played online, but I haven't seen discussion about it. It seems to me that if you're going to allow RPs to pitch 200 innings and a 1B who plays one inning at 2B to have 2B eligibility, you wouldn't be doing the game a greater disservice by allowing the above outfielder rule.

Would LOVE to see this implemented and I have argued for it since the game launched here on TSN, but so far to no avail.

Right on guys! I thought I was the only one who thought about this. There have been many times I have wanted to put Lofton, or Coco Crisp in LF but could not, because TSN does not allow this rule. I am not saying it is a HUGE shortcoming, but it sure would be nice to see this rule used. Thanks for the feedback.
