I disagree. It was society in general that had segregation, not just baseball or sports. I also don't think you can judge history based on today's standards. Are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc, etc bad people now just because they owned slaves? No way, it was just how things were back then.[/quote:290b07d548]

I thought political, religious, and offensive statements were not tolerated here at TSN. I guess I was wrong! Because justifying slavery under any circumstances, during ANY ERA is wrong! And the above quote is sickening and offensive. Not only that it has absolutely NO PLACE HERE AT TSN....Or at least I thought.

But since TSN does not seem to think anything is wrong with justifying slavery, I am starting a boycott of all TSN games and web sites until this highly inflammatory post is taken down.

I have seen much less offensive political posts edited out. Why was this one not? Because A moderator wrote it? I don't know, but unless this post is taken down fast(and you can take my reactionary posts down as well) I am calling on ALL PATRIOTIC NON RACISTS MORAL AMERICANS TO BOYCOTT THIS WEB SITE.

THERE IS RIGHT AND WRONG AND I CAN NOT ALLOW THIS STUFF TO BE POSTED WITHOUT VOICING MY OBJECTIONS. I HOPE I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO SEES HOW WRONG THE OFFENSIVE STATEMENT IS!

I would be surprised if one or even two people joined me in this boycott. I realize most of you probably do not care, or think I am over reacting. But my moral compass is strong, and all I want is for the post in question to be taken down. This is not a site for moral and political issues. If you want to defend SLAVE OWNERS DO IT ON GLENN BECK'S WEB SITE,.. NOT HERE. OR DO IT WITHOUT ME,...EVEN IF I AM THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS THAT STUFF IS OFFENSIVE AND OUT OF PLACE HERE!

Yes I read the entire thread,.. several times. Is it asking too much of this group for one person too see how wrong that statement is???????

Frankly, I do not care if no one else sees how offensive that is, I see it!

And I would ask you this,..would THE LM BOMBERS make that kind of statement face to face with many people around,..including people of African American descent? Because if you can't make a statement in front of everyone and anyone, chances are it is offensive, or racists, or sexist.

To further my point; The LM Bobmbers say we need to look at people's actions in the context of their time period and surroundings. By this crazy logic, it is alright for the Taliban to rape and beat woman because it is normal in their society.

[b:f802e758ef]I'm very glad things have changed but you have to consider historical events in context with the times as they were. [/b:f802e758ef][/quote:f802e758ef]
Why did you leave the last part of his statement out? It makes more sense to INCLUDE the entire comment then pass judgement and then form your own opinion and go from there. SGT D

Thomas Jefferson

Dear Uncle Milty

Settle down...I have read and reread LMs post a dozen times, it was not racist or bigoted. It was maybe poorly worded but I do not believe that any ill-intent was involved at all. We all know that slavery was and is wrong...But it was accepted and it was huge industry many years ago. Some like Thomas Jefferson owned slaves and never really got over the guilt of owning them. Please take some time to read up on Jefferson.

Jefferson was an outspoken abolitionist, but he owned many slaves over his lifetime. Although these facts seem baffling, biographers point out that Jefferson was deeply in debt and had encumbered his slaves by notes and mortgages; he could not free them until he was free of debt, which never happened. As a result, Jefferson seems to have suffered pangs and trials of conscience. His ambivalence was also reflected in his treatment of those slaves who worked most closely with him and his family at Monticello and in other locations. He invested in having them trained and schooled in high quality skills. He wrote about slavery, "We have the wolf by the ears; and we can neither hold him, nor safely let him go. Justice is in one scale, and self-preservation in the other."

I would like to think that as we as a society advance all will end up with equal rights. Slavery is nonexistent in most civilized nations and as more nations advance, slavery will become less and less till it is wiped out.

As for LMBombers statement...Yes, good people back then did own slaves. If you grow up with something you believe that it is acceptable and you go with the flow....but if you do some reading you will find that with the good people came tons of guilt. Many a good person has trouble righting a wrong when the overwhelming majority is wrong. Look how long we had segregation. You cant whitewash it and tell me that every person in the south that sent there child to an all white school was racist. Some were racist, some were just stupid, some did not care one way or the other and some just did not know what else to do.

Anyway....I am not the best writer in southern Minnesota (so I hope this makes some sense), but I feel that you are wayyy overreacting. I have read hundreds of LMs posts I do not think he is a nut job or a bigot. TSN can remove his post if they wish but I do not believe that he meant any thing racist by his comments...

I hope this made a little sense

Peace

gross54

PS

Milty I do agree with you about Glenn Beck., The man is totally ******* crazy!!

You are way off base and maybe need a reading comprehension course. You can choose to disagree with initial his point(which was about baseball) and/or his Founding Father illustration, but to say he was justifying slavery is ridiculous. Oops, I guess I'm a racist now.

Even if LM's statement is not bigoted (and that is a HUGE IF) this is no place for his political and social commentary. Posts that were a lot less inflammatory than his have been taken down.

And I would invite LM and any others who want to justify the actions of slave owners to come to my place of business and make those statements to my co-workers. Because if someone did make those kinds of statements in certain company they would be beaten to a bloody pulp. AND THAT IS THE NORM IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. SO IS IT JUSTIFIED?
