You know I thought for a guy that cant type I explained my point fairly decent. But I guess not. Miltys coworkers are now going to beat me to a bloody pulp...Unless....maybe miltys coworkers have a little commonsense and could have a normal discussion without he ranting and raving....maybe Milty your coworkers are more civilized than you think....you know what your statement makes me think you are racist!!!!!!!!!!!

From here on I will not play in any league that involves Uncle Milty. I dont play with people that advocate beating people to a pulp!!!!

I' m done with you people , unless all of these posts are taken down fast. You disgust me. It is not even about being politically correct anymore, it is simply about right and wrong. And you people are just plain wrong. I could debate you all day and continue to rain down blows of logic on your ridiculous arguments, but I have better things to do , and less shallow minded people to spend time with. BYE!

By "certain company", are you referring to individuals that read or hear anything related to race and twist whatever comment that was made into something that was never intended and use it to go off on their own personal crusade? I hope you have gotten rid of that Bob Feller autographed baseball.

[quote:171b5f476a="LMBombers"][quote:171b5f476a="maligned"][ It's a sad, sad part of baseball history (and others sports' histories) that teams were segregated for so long.
[/quote:171b5f476a]

I disagree. It was society in general that had segregation, not just baseball or sports. I also don't think you can judge history based on today's standards. Are George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, etc, etc bad people now just because they owned slaves? No way, it was just how things were back then.

I'm very glad things have changed but you have to consider historical events in context with the times as they were.[/quote:171b5f476a]

Since my comment was the one that LM responded to in the first place, I'd like to respond to what he said. Very simply, segregation in baseball is a sad, sad part of our history. Yes, it was a result of the circumstances surrounding it, but that doesn't make it any less sad or unfortunate. I wasn't trying to explore whether or not baseball could have done things differently, I was merely lamenting the fact that it all happened.

rmilter, I too am uncomfortable with parts of what LM said in his posts, but I agree with others that have suggested you're overreacting. Just because we don't agree doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to speak his mind.

To be clear, I've been around too many friends that are still affected directly and indirectly by current and past sins of white people to take the time to fashion an argument in defense of those who carried out slavery. I'm not saying I know for sure I would have done anything any differently that Thomas Jefferson in his shoes--but my actions, like his, would have had no justification whatsoever had I followed in his footsteps.

Still, though, unless someone is malicious, I can't go along with censoring people. Little by little, the past ignorance of this country is being stripped away. We just have to be patient and continue dialoguing.

Removing my message.
I take back what I said and don't want to stay involved in this.

Interesting fact:

[b:282cae3cba]April 15, 1947[/b:282cae3cba] - Jackie Robinson plays for the Dodgers

[b:282cae3cba]October 29, 1969[/b:282cae3cba] - the Supreme Court ruled that school districts must end segregation

MLB was 22 years ahead of the US Supreme Court and Schools.

The answer is quite simple--- If everyone would get their own house in order and quit judging or blaming someone for hurting their feelings this would all go away

I can;t make you feel better and you can't fix me!!!!!!

Is this a fools fantasy?

Somewhat Yes!!!!

But it comes from a ex-drug addict that has stayed clean and sober for over 31 years in spite of the rest of the world

Just my 2 cents worth!!!!!!!

What about not allowing women to vote. Were those people terrible or just a product of their time?
This is a major overreaction and you can't call someone racist over poor wording. It is not pleasant being called a racist. I was once called one here because I dared to say that Negro League stars were equal to the whites that played but were not necessarily better. Their feats were someone fabricated such as Gibson hitting the ball out of Yankee stadium and Satchel routinely walking the bases full and then having his fielders sit down while he struck out the side.
No one is justifying slavery here and I believe everyone agrees that society should have been integrated from the beginning of our Country's history.
And here is another vote for Fox News!
