Summer - Winter Keeper League

Postby tcochran » Sun Oct 25, 2009 4:27 pm

OK, the draft is ready to begin. As it turns out, there are display bugs in the software there, so even when admin choices were made, they did not show up as being done. Likewise, I was unable to type names into the user ID slot, but cutting-and-pasting worked just fine. How curious!

Anyhow, we are good to go. See draft info on the new chat thread for the league at: http://forums.sportingnews.com/viewtopic.php?p=4872065#4872065

Couple questions

1. When do we start drafting, I notice that the site is up and ready to go.
2. If I read it correctly, the draft is from 8AM to 10PM at night, is this EST or what?
3. The total $200 million cap is for all 40 players, correct?

Yup, draft site is ready and waiting for first pick. See comments at:

Draft is 10AM - 10PM Eastern -- as the times during which the pick clock is running. If it is your turn, you may take it at any time, 3AM, 11PM, etc.

The cap of $200 million actually just applies to the 25 players to be shown on the active SOM roster -- but that is so far above what those players are going to cost that you can just view it as "unlimited."

So theoretically, my 40 man roster could be valued at $300 million, but I can only have $200 million on the active 25 man roster.

Yes, theoretically that is correct. In practice, however, the totals will be a lot less.

I'm in another keeper league and, in that one, the opening day 25-man rosters ranged in value from $70 mil up to $145 mil. Some mangers were focused on the next year's card set and beyond, while others were looking for a quicker return on their investment.

When drafting against 11 other managers, you'll never be able to get enough high-dollar stars to come anywhere near the $200 mil max.

If you could get a $300 million roster you're doing something all of us wish we could.

The $200 million roster is basically an unlimited roster -- i.e. there is no cap.
$200M is the highest setting that you can do on the site, so that's what we use.

Just think of it this way: You are not restricted by any monetary caps in these type of unlimited leagues. The only restrictions are on how many players can be on your roster at one time.

I was just using $300 million as "symbol/example". Also, does the draft start today or tomorrow. Finally, someone mentioned next year's cards. Does that mean the players we draft will use the card set for the year the league is in? For example, if we play a season this year we will use the 2008 set, but when we play next year we will use the 2009 set. Therefore, if we use the 2009 set, then we need to look at how the players preformed this season because their card values will be based on this season's performance?

Ah yes, that's the interesting thing about a keeper league. Originally, we had planned to play 2 seasons with the 2008 player set. Due to the late start, however, we will only be playing one.

After that, we will play 2 seasons with the 2009 player set, 2 with the 2010 player set, etc. So part of the fun of drafting is to look not only at the season that is about to get started, but also to look down the road (just like in MLB) and plan for later years, too.

I just sent a PM to hkmossy for picks #12 and 13 in the draft. After those picks are made, then we go to the 2-hour clock.
