Iron Gloves & Gopher Balls - Full

Postby pwootten » Thu Oct 29, 2009 4:13 pm

I have a new league ready to unveil on Friday for those who might be interested. I've taken the 70's player list, sorted it by defense, then turned it upside down[/color:8978056377][/size:8978056377]. The result? The 145 worst fielders of the 70's. All 3's and 4's.

To go along with these iron gloves I took the pitchers list and sorted them by WHIP, then turned it upside down[/color:8978056377][/size:8978056377]. The 110 most hit-prone pitchers will be available to YOU in this new league, called Iron Gloves and Gopher Balls.

Being the great guy I am, I'll give you some freedom to make moves that improve your clubs. In addition to 20 iron gloves and gopher ballers you'll get to choose 4 top-notch stars to round out your club. Pitchers or hitters, it doesn't matter. In the end you'll have a 24-man roster.

Should be fun, should be competitive. Now I just hope there are still enough guys hanging around here to fill it.

More on Friday.

Paul

you may want to incorporate some guys like Carew who is a 4 at 2B and make him play there or a guy like J Bench who is a 4 rated OF

You run into problems with this with either the owner or HAL moving them to their better positions during the game.

Iron Gloves and Gopher Balls

Postby pwootten » Fri Oct 30, 2009 9:34 am

Here's the rundown:

The draft list includes the worst 110 pitchers in terms of WHIP and the worst 145 defensive postion players. The list can be seen here:

http://stratgeeks.blogspot.com/2009/10/iron-gloves-and-gopher-balls.html

- I also have the eligible player list in Excel format. PM me if interested.

- Each manager will draft 20 Iron Gloves and/or Gopher Ballers. The remaining 15 players will be available for free agent acquisition during the season. You can draft any combination of hitters and pitchers. It's up to you.

- Each manager will also draft 4 additional players - anyone you want. Pitchers, hitters, whatever. The sky's the limit. Morgan, Schmidt, whoever.

- Your 4 additional players can be drafted during any round of the draft.

- Trades and roster moves are allowable at any time, but Iron Gloves and Gopher Ballers can only be exchanged for other Iron Gloves and Gopher Ballers. Your four additional players can be swapped out as you see fit.

Now the fine print:
- All teams will carry 24 players.
- No DH, 5/10/20 Waivers.
- 25-round draft on somdraft.com - 24 Players and Stadium. We won't be in a big rush, but we do want to keep it moving. I am always happy to text managers when their turn comes up.
- This will probably be a $60M or $80M league, but we'll wait until after the draft to see where we stand on salaries.
- A randomizer will be run to determine draft order. Draft will be serpentine.
- Only 1 or 2 Iron Glove catchers per team.

I'm hoping there are still enough 70's players around to fill this fun league.

your spreadsheet says there are 16 elligible catchers. You have to have at least 24 since every team needs 2. I don't think a catcher's range is very important at all. Why don't we just limit it to catcher's who's arm is 0 or worse or something like that. I think throwing arm is much more important than catcher range.

I just assumed that some folks would be drafting catchers - Bench, Simmons, etc. Kinda makes the draft even more challenging when you know that catchers are in short supply, so if you blow your picks early you might be drafting catchers with 2 of your 4 prime picks.

If you only get 4 picks I doubt 8 catchers will be drafted. Who knows I've been wrong plenty times before.
