Triples. How much of an indicator are they?

The more I play, the less I believe that triples help determine the season of a player. Two recent examples. Don Mattingly in his '92 non triple season had four triples in 50 games. Same league, Kent Hrbek has hit three in his 1988 non triple season in 61 games. I used to think triples were a very good indicator in determining which card you had, but the more I play, the less I believe that triples help determine the season at all unless you have a season like the George Brett 20 triple year.

triples are only good if you know the pitchers card. You have to look at the pitchers card to see if they have triples. Also manager settings are important because if you have any single** or double* they can become triples also...

I try not to use triples too much but sometimes if i have an idea of what card a guy has it can help.

I don't use triples as an infallible factor but they can help a lot when used with other information. For example see Ellis Valentine on this team:

Before I picked him up he had no injury reveals but he did have an HBP so I knew he was 78, 80, or 82. He also had a triple aganist LHP so I thought I should take a chance. Obviously this worked pretty well for me. Ellis now has 4 3Bs for me against LHP and is (I think) pretty obviously in his 1980 year.

Seriously though, I think I made a bad blunder with this team when I knowingly dumped 1980 Keith Hernandez a few nights ago. I was on a losing streak and thought that I should try to get more pop against RHP. If Cooper turns out to be in his 1986 year then I'm pretty much hosed and I'm afraid Mitchell's RBI numbers will go south in the second half.
