Your 2008 80M dream team

Postby MARCPELLETIER » Thu Nov 05, 2009 5:52 pm

J-PAV secret formula's post reminded me of this idea.

I invite you to post here your 2008 80M dream team.

Pick your players. Pick your stadium. Pick your subs. 24 players or 28, you decide. The players are all available.

Later, in a few weeks, I will pick 12 of the most interesting teams, and I will run sims over multiple seasons.

The guy with the best average season will win the title of GM genius.

Here's my 2008 dream team. PNC park.

Buehrle, M. L S7* 218.2 3.79 3R 3.30M
Sheets, B. R S6* 198.1 3.09 1R 5.24M
Meche, G. R S6* 210.1 3.98 3L 3.69M
Perkins, G. L S6 151.0 4.41 3R .50M
Soria, J. R R1/C6 67.1 1.60 1R 6.04M
Grabow, J. L R1/C2 76.0 2.84 1R 1.74M
Shields, S. R R1/C2 63.1 2.70 5L 1.52M
Rivera, S. R R2/C0 84.0 3.96 3L .90M
Lindstrom, M. R R1/C3 57.1 3.14 5R .82M

Hitters B Pos.* AB OPS BAL Drop:
Inge, B. R C,3B,CF,... 347 .672 2L 1.37M
Berkman, L. S 1B 554 .987 4R 8.15M
Lahair, B. L 1B 136 .661 2R .56M
Roberts, B. S 2B 611 .828 1L 7.23M
Sandoval, P. S 3B,1B,C 145 .847 4R 4.91M
Prado, M. R 3B,2B,1B,... 228 .838 1L 4.36M
Izturis, M. S SS,2B,3B 290 .691 1R 1.29M
Izturis, C. S SS,3B 414 .628 3L .70M
Everett, A. R SS,2B 127 .601 1L .51M
Christian, J. R LF,CF,RF 40 .627 6L .50M
Granderson, C. L CF 553 .859 2R 6.40M
Amezaga, A. S CF,SS,2B,... 311 .679 2R .96M
Markakis, N. L RF 595 .897 E 8.99M
Winn, R. S RF,LF,CF 598 .789 E 4.69M

Heavily based on this 110 win team:

http://fantasygames.sportingnews.com/stratomatic/team/team_other.html?user_id=196940

But I always thought Winn would end up better than the Anderson/Dillon Platoon, so I had to move around a couple of backups. You need to make Soria a "superreliever" who will get 150+ innings. The rest of the pen have fairly obvious roles. The SS/3b position is an injury platoon split between prado/Izturises/Inge/Everett.

Good team speed, but don't go aggressive stealing

I don't know if this is my dream team, but it's one I'd like to try. My living/working situation in East Africa doesn't allow me to check up on teams daily, so I haven't even played a team in the '08 set. Maybe I'll be "Lucky" enough to have this team submitted for simulation purposes.

Camden Yards

I'm going 3 Studs and a Dud for my starting staff, plus a cheapo bullpen. I'd hope to see Okajima go 130-150 inn, Hanrahan maybe 50-60, and the other 4 situationally (25-30 innings each).

Lincecum, T. R S7* 227.0 2.62 1L 8.00M
Santana, E. R S7* 219.0 3.49 2R 6.95M
Hamels, C. L S7* 227.1 3.09 6R 6.10M
Sonnanstine, A. R S6* 193.1 4.38 2L 1.57M
Braden, D. L S6/R3 71.2 4.14 6R .82M
Okajima, H. L R1/C0 62.0 2.61 2L 2.40M
Hanrahan, J. R R2/C3 84.1 3.95 2L 1.37M
Wilson, B. R R1/C6 62.1 4.62 9L .83M
Lindstrom, M. R R1/C3 57.1 3.14 5R .82M
Schoeneweis, S. L R1/C0 56.2 3.34 9L .50M

In Camden, I've got 5 right-handed mashers that are all reasonable values for this set for various reasons (injury rating, middle infield defense overpriced, outfield defense underpriced, etc.). Then, I chose 3 platoons and a switch-hitter to build my OBP against all the righthanded pitching I think I'd face with this team. My only true bench players then are Figgins (backing up 3B/DH injury issues, plus pinchrunning) and Tolbert. Also, Casey and Freel would be mix and match backups during injuries to face particular pitching matchups in addition to their platoon roles.

Saltalamacchia, J. S C 198 .716 6R 2.49M
Rabelo, M. S C 109 .550 4L .67M
Helton, T. L 1B 299 .779 1R 2.27M
Casey, S. L 1B 199 .773 2L 1.33M
Kinsler, I. R 2B 518 .892 2R 5.75M
Longoria, E. R 3B,SS 448 .874 2R 6.43M
Figgins, C. S 3B,2B 453 .685 1R .90M
Ramirez, H. R SS 589 .940 4R 7.60M
Tolbert, M. S SS,3B,2B 113 .711 E .67M
Bay, J. R LF 577 .895 2R 7.56M
Hunter, T. R CF 551 .810 1L 6.94M
Freel, R. R CF,LF,3B,... 131 .699 3L .74M
Bradley, M. S RF,LF 414 .998 3L 5.21M
Sweeney, R. L RF,CF,LF 384 .733 4R 2.05M

As I said, don't know if it's a dream team, but it's a team I'd love to play and tinker with every day.

Good, good. Very good candidates.

Maligned, I see that you went with Cadmen, and that you went with a few left-handed bats. Just so that you know, there will be no division in that simulation...no need to adjust for potential opponents who can exploit a line-up full of right-handed bats.

This said, perhaps you think that the platoons of Saltalamacchia/Rabelo and Helton/Casey are so valuable that they are worth keeping in any kind of stadium. So don't hesitate to stick to that core of players if you wish.

Keep them coming!

I'll post mine soon.

Wavy, I see your paylist sums up to 79.33. What do you want to do with the 0.67M? Another back-up? Or a better back-up?

BTW, folks, the CD-ROM does NOT allow the new settings (such as bullpen 2.0) found in TSN.

(Well, actually, it can if I were to jump into the SuperHal Logic bullpen, but I won't).

So, platoons are ok, pinch-hit vs rhp or vs lhp is ok.

For bullpen, you can identify your main
set-up vs lhp
set-up vs rhp
closer vs lhp
closer vs rhp.

You can also identify your ideal line-up, if you wish, from 1-9, vs lhp; vs rhp.

(if you are to make changes, I prefer you edit your posts rather than make new posts)

How do you run the simulations?

Does the CD-ROM you mention come from stratomatic online ?
