Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

On the contrary Rob, because of the mystery card, there's an additional element of luck that means even a rookie can come out on top. But also contrary to other reports, it's not all luck -- the things you've learned playing ATG and 200x will help you in the 80s.

Try it you'll like it!

P.S.: I might recomend a theme league rather than a straight autodraft league for the best experience.

MINOR CHANGES, revisited

Postby honestiago1 » Tue Mar 21, 2006 9:06 am

PRICE: I'd like to see the price of teams come down, maybe to $20 for one team, with the 5-pack being $75.

PLAYER POOL: Don't think we necessarily need more players, but I'd like to see a bit more realism, regards usage limits (or the ability to turn on a limit switch).

VARIABLE SALARY CAPS: This is a must. It'll make it easier to tailor our own leagues. It'd be nice if you could set "pitching" and "hitting" caps, or "minimum # players on roster" tags or "max # roster moves" or "AL, NL players only," "min/max salary," etc.. Think if you combine the ability to tailor a league, in which the game engine can handle some of the limits/rules/requirements, you couple this with reduced prices, maybe you get more people setting up their own unique leagues. I'm not a programmer, however, and have no idea how difficult this would be to set up.

I'll echo Rob's comments. After reading this thread, I'm tempted to try another 80's team. I played once, and managed an 82-80 record. It was OK, but didn't exactly set my pants on fire. Perhaps I'll give it another shot. I didn't particularly care for the Mystery Card concept, I feel that in a single season, the randomness gives enough of a mystery card effect. Why else would Yount be batting .208 on one of my ATGII teams?

Anyway, if you think ATGII is "set it and forget it," then you are mistaken. As Rob said, if you do that, you will not likely be successful. There is a reason that certain managers are continuously successful.

the intimdation factor also plays a part. As Rob said, with this game and especially with the 200x games, you are at a severe disadvantage going in "blind."

I'm not a number cruncher kind of guy, I don't have detailed spreadsheets of players, have no idea how many "chances" are on each card, don't use Diamond Dope, etc. I pretty much play by feel and just "know" when a team feels right when I put it together. Never played Strat before I found this online, so don't have that experience either. I guess my point is in the 80's I may think I have a decent team, but will actually have no idea.

Here is my detailed card analysis method--

Hitter card-- [b:7a7921a924]BOLD [/b:7a7921a924]= GOOD
Pitcher card-- [b:7a7921a924]BOLD [/b:7a7921a924]= BAD

Anyway, my €0.02 (at the current exchange rate, my opinion is worth more than your $0.02  )

I'll think about giving it another shot.
