Game 46: F. Garcia has a 2-hit shutout through six. Team up 1 - 0. Eight K's no walks. Unexplainably he is removed to start the 7th. DH league so no pinch hitter. No injury. All settings normal/regular.

yeah, on that point, for some reason HAL removes certain SP who are pitching well around the 6th even though they have a low pitch count. Many times in is in a tie game. I complianed and was told "it was a close game." I know that's why I wanted my starter to go a little. I have noticed that this move is prevalent with 4.5 to 5.5 Million relievers, I have had it happen with Peavey, Garcia, Pavano and Perez. Now to be fair a lot of these guys were 6 inning folks, but some are 7 Ip. I don't know what HAL sees that we don't.

Stlouisnathan,

Clemens allowed 3 walks in his eight inning. He had become weak.

As for Oswalt and Garcia; they are not dominant pitchers. If you want them to stay longer, you have to click on "slow hook" rather than regular settings.

sacramento,

there is two problems in the posts you provided.

First, as I have many times reported---perhaps this is the first time reading it---Hal does not seem to understand the "switch" concept. In both occasions, you have Walker, a lefty, pitching, with Bradley, a switch hitter coming up. Not sure of your settings, but in any case, Walker (9L) vs Bradley is very bad. Bradley is right-handed vs Walker, so Hal brings in Witasik--to have a rhp vs a right-handed (problem, of course, is that Bradley is switch and turns side). Hopefully, this is something Bernie will be looking at.

Once Witasik is the game, though, Hal doesn't make any move because you don't have enough pitchers. As been stated many times, included by Bernie, once the bullpen gets very thin, especially if there is still two/three innings left in the game, Hal becomes super conservative. In your case, your bullpen has only four relievers, and I wouldn't even be surprise to learn that Yan was at that time your closer---I say this because that's how he was used in many games between game 110 and game 125. So Witasik was seemingly one of the only three relievers that he could turn to. Not good.

If you are to use only 3 or 4 men in your bullpen with a regular rotation, then you have to make sure that the "go-to" pitcher is the one you really want---not a 0.52M reliever. In other words, if you go with a 3 men reliever (with a normal rotation), have a 5M reliever as set-up, a 3M with normal settings, and 2 cheap relievers with "mop-up" roles clicked.

Roscodog,

put Lidge as set-up and closer (plus restrict him to "don't use before the 7th inning) just to make sure he only comes late in games.

Marcus, Clemens had walked two in that 8th inning. I wouldn't really want to put Oswalt and Garcia on slow hook because they aren't dominant. But to remove them in the 5th or 6th when they are pitching well in a tight game and they are not fatigued is not normal to me. Especially in a DH league.
