SOM's NY Bias

Assuming that A Rod and Jeter are rated better defensively than they deserve (which may or may not be the case, of course), does that mean that the cards of Yankee pitchers are worse than they deserve? SOM targets accuracy, so if fewer X chances are resulting in hits, wouldn't that mean that they need to put more hits on the pitcher cards to ensure that a reply generates the proper number of baserunners?

It's consistent with most things in MLB. The Yankees need a little extra favor here and there or it wouldn't be real...we wouldn't want them to have to play on a (gulp  ) level playing field.

But...I'm with Joe. If a guy didn't play a position during the season, or saw limited time there, he shouldn't get a rating based on what Hal Richmond and his crew think he [i:5a5a085cdf]would have [/i:5a5a085cdf]gotten had he played there all year or for another squad.

Hell, why not give AROD a 1e6 at 1b, and while we're at it, a 2(-2)e6 at LF and RF, and he could probably score a 2e12 at 2B...he could even relieve for 2 innings and close for 4 outs!!!

Look, I'm not saying that A Rod wouldn't be a great SS, just that they are wildly inconsistent. Traditionally they have always lower rated guys who played few innings at a position. Maybe there have been other exceptions (Castilla?) but by and large there haven't been.

I'm pretty sure when Pokie Reese went from SS to 2b, he was rated a 3 after being a 1 the previous season.

If you're going to rate by "would be" then you have to do it across the board, just not for the Yankees. Again, why is Alfonzo an e41 at 2b? He didn't make a single error there. So, by that logic, shouldn't A rod be a 2 e48???

Bottom line: If you do it for one, you have to do it for all. They aren't doing that.
