Double Decade Hall of Fame - Results are In

Postby YountFan » Thu Nov 26, 2009 10:28 pm

Now that we are 13 seasons into the Double Decade it is time to start the Hall of Fame. Below are links to the stats (summary and detail) for all the retired players with five or more completed seasons.

You may vote for up to 10 players. Those players who receive 75% of the vote are in, the rest can try again after the '84 season.

You can use this thread for discussion and lobbying for your favorites, but please vote by sending me a PM. Voting will close December 19th.

Bonds, Jackson and HOF Chat

Postby YountFan » Fri Nov 27, 2009 8:22 am

Does he belong in the DD-HOF? .908 OPS in 6 seasons, but 50+ homers three time, but two seasons where he hit below .230 (maybe he was hurt).

What about Blomberg and his great hitting and poor fielding? Bowa? 12 seasons as the best SS in the league must count for something. Ben Oglive avg 30+ and near 100 RBI over the long haul

Rollie Fingers, Grant Jackson and John Hiller, do they have what it takes? Jackson looks very good over his career and Hiller saved 45 and won 21 games in different seasons.

Randy Jones was hard to beat

Lou Brock would be a no-brainer if he was elligible I think. He had 4 awesome seasons and is the all-time SB leader.

For your consideration..

I thought people might want to consider each season's award winners in making their decisions. As the voters in these league have a tendency to pick pitchers for MVPs, where that has happened I've put the top vote-getting hitter in brackets. And for the 80s, since the game hasn't been updated for ages, we still can't see the award winners once the season's over

Ok. I've got some hitters chosen for my ballot. There's also 4 hitters I'm undecided on. Anyone like to make a case for or against:

Ben Oglivie
Reggie Smith
Willie Stargell

Benji was very consistent performer over his years in the league averaging 30+ HR and 100+ RBIs. Not sure those number along with a .265 BA and '3' defense makes you a hall of famer, but is is worthy on votes.

Smith also averaged 30 and 100+, but added 100+ runs and a 900+ OPS. I think anyone with a 900+ OPS needs to be under serious consideration. I think Smith should be a lock for the HOF

Stargell only played 5 years and that is not his fault. Averaged 44 HR and 120+ RBIs. His lifetime slugging average is .576! OPS 936. He was a total force in the league and ever have 11 stolen bases. He needs to be in the hall.

Yaz sits on the HOF fence. He did avg 100+ runs and had one monster season with 53 HR, but he just was not that exciting. He hit 20 hr and drove in 80. I think he was hitting 2nd all those year and his OBP of 393 is really good.

I think [b:5461325917]Larry Bowa[/b:5461325917]deserves consideration. The best fielder at his position, hit 300+ three times. he dropped off when his age caught up with him in the 80s, but a top performer and a welcome addition to any team inthe league

I'm in the middle of a move so will need some time to consider my ballot, but just from the looks of the above Steve Carlton will be first on my list.
4 Cy Youngs in the 70's (two of them MVP)??? Yikes why wasn't I told about that before we re-started this thing.

Carlton is still active and the voting closes 12/19
