It goes against my competitive nature to share the precious rare cheapie bargains in Strat, but since everyone in the community is so gracious and the year is running down anyway -- it's unlikely I'll be outsmarting any of the other Tournament finalists at this point -- here's a few of my thoughts, in both addition to many of the names already mentioned here, and reflecting upon them as well.
Depending on the league and your park, I've had some terrific success with [b:6285e9175d]Bartolo Colon[/b:6285e9175d] in Fenway, particularly in an AL-only league, but I bet he'd competitive in AT&T or Petco, too.
[b:6285e9175d]Bass [/b:6285e9175d]has been a mixed bag, sometimes winning double digit games with triple digit IP and an ERA mid-4's, but he's also been crushed.
[b:6285e9175d]Valbuena[/b:6285e9175d] had a .429 OBA in 200 PA for me, platooning vs. LH in Rangers.
I keep thinking [b:6285e9175d]Julio Lugo[/b:6285e9175d] should be a bargain, but I've only gotten one good season out of three from him.
[b:6285e9175d]Doug Waechter [/b:6285e9175d]has done two decent jobs and one fantastic one for me.
[b:6285e9175d]Dmitri Young[/b:6285e9175d] is a platoon monster every time, and I hope this pattern continues in the first round of the StraTournament. I've also got Bass, Cairo and Colon, so we'll see if these bargains are actually a benefit. :D Several other players mentioned on this page are still hanging out there in my tourney league; wonder if this thread is getting any love and if they'll get snapped up.
In closing, I'll also give props to [b:6285e9175d]John Garland[/b:6285e9175d], who I've never used, but in the last league I played, admittedlly an AL-only league, he was the regular 4th starter, 150+ IP, 3.80 ERA, 9-9 record, and won a playoff game. For half a buck, that's incredible.
Fun conversation! Thanks for starting it, elpasopesos!
