1969 AUCTION LEAGUE - BIDDING ONLY

Postby GFDWARF07 » Fri Dec 04, 2009 11:27 am

OK guys I am typing with a baby in my other arm - all went well - thanks for the good wishes!

We are getting set to start the auction tomorrow, but I do not want to start until all owners have acknowledged that start by checking in here via a new post. A simple "I am here" is all I want to see.

The owner group is as follows:

1. Rjnewman
2. gfdwarf07
3. sneezedoc
4. franky35
5. AllStarInc
6. GordieHowe
7. BrandonCraig
8. Ugrant
9. ldanred
10. ggrover15
11. Risden
12. gorshar

Once all have checked-in here I will convert this to a biddding thread. A reminder on the rules:

1969 Prehistoric Auction League

Auction to be held on dedicated TNS Message Board String here on the 1969 board.

$100M Cap

No DH!

Must bid on 25 players (10 pitchers, 15 hitters) and a unique stadium, which will also be auctioned as part of your $100M payroll (minimum stadium bid = 500K). These 25 players are your team for the ENTIRE SEASON (no add/drop or trading).

Minimum starting bid for any player is 10% of the player’s TSN established salary, rounding UP to nearest 0.1M (i.e. McCovey (13.35M) opening bid is $1.4M, Stargell (8.04M) is 900K).

Minimum bid increment is 100K

24 Hour bid clock based on time stamp on each message board entry (a player is considered “sold” when 24 hours elapses since the last bid – clock is reset to 24 hours at each bid).

Five (5) players will be up for bidding at any particular time (3 hitters and 2 pitchers). The initial five nominees will be the 3 highest priced hitters (McCovey, Jackson, F. Robinson) and 2 highest priced pitchers (Marichal, McDowell). Each time a player is sold the winning owner nominates a new player (any player yet to be auctioned) with a minimum bid. When that owner’s team has reached the maximum number of hitters/pitchers the nomination right slides to the next owner down on the division lineups (working East to West).

Divisions will be randomly assigned once 12 owners have signed-up.

Each owner is responsible for bidding within the limits of their 100M cap (budgeting for 25 players and a stadium, with a minimum salary/stadium cost of $500K).

BIDDING INSTRUCTIONS: Copy the full player name into the subject line, then include the player's last name, your user ID and our bid in the message body. The player name in the subject line makes it much easier to refer back to find the player along what will become a very long string. Thanks!

A word about the process: We have done a couple of these auctions in ATGIV and the auction itself can last up to six months. So we need dedicated owners who will see the process through and commit to fielding the team they purchase via the auction. Everyone has periods where they are unavailable and may miss out on certain players as a result – that is the nature of the beast. This is a very fun process and maximizes your credit value over a long period. We have a very good group of returning owners and I am sure this will be a lot of fun.

I will also get a randomizer run by a third party for division assignments later today.

Thanks all and let's keep it fun!

I'm here... also with a baby on the arm.

Question - I see we're doing $100m instead of $80m as in the other leagues.

To be clear, it's $100m to bid with, but what about the total of the carded values? Is that also $100m or are we following as the other leagues and using $200m?

I never did an auction league before - I'm in.

Commish Dan - Can you answer the question raised by gorshar: To be clear, it's $100m to bid with, but what about the total of the carded values? Is that also $100m or are we following as the other leagues and using $200m?

Good questions - also had been asked in the sign-up thread. The $100M is just your auction budget. The league will be set up as a $200M league, so card values will have no impact. $100M is a round number - easy to tell what percentages you are spending on which roles, players, etc.

And note this from the rules above:

Must bid on 25 players (10 pitchers, 15 hitters) and a unique stadium, which will also be auctioned as part of your $100M payroll (minimum stadium bid = 500K). These 25 players are your team for the ENTIRE SEASON (no add/drop or trading).

So with no add/drop you must have your team fully "legal" (i.e. per the TSN '69 roster requirements) with the 25 players you buy.

We will not get started until all have checked in, just to assure fairness. I will send out PM's to those that have yet to do so later on tonight...
