Nominate Gelnar

Postby Sneezedoc » Wed Dec 16, 2009 10:02 pm

Sorry all...let's see tonight instead of being online to nominate a new player, I was at my office holiday party, my son's chorale concert and then out to a nice dinner with my wife.....(tough places to use the Blackberry as well...LOL)

I want to go completely off the board, and nominate John Gelnar 0.5

Woodie Held

Postby gorshar » Wed Dec 16, 2009 10:58 pm

This is the fifth auction I've taken part in.

Even if we adjust the bid to $80 mil as the other auctions, that still puts Held at 4.8 on a 1.96 card.

I have never in any auction seen a player, any player, go 2.5x above value.

We have seen some high bidding, but it's been on marquee players and this is normal in the early stages of any auction.

But 2.5x for a 1.96 card???????

Of course we are all free to bid what we want for who we want but I wonder if maybe it might help to offer some newbie advice -----
Cards like this are a dime a dozen and in the later stages of this auction 2 mil, 3 mil cards will all be going for 500k. Save your money, you'll need it later - while money is thrown freely around in the early days, toward the end you'll be scraping for every 100k you can get.

Oh and Good advice gorshar but the person bidding that high on Held is an MVP and therefore been around for a while!

But I don't think he's (actually several people went loopy on Held) done in auction before and would not be familiar with the bidding dynamics.
