1969 AUCTION LEAGUE - BIDDING ONLY

Our historical single season sets

[quote:b7e05340bd]A lot of things in an auction draft can get weird price-wise. [/quote:b7e05340bd] They do. And that's part of the fun. One of the reasons I jumped on Fregosi, is the SS pool in this set is really thin, so there aren't going to be any bargains.

Oh and that and he was the Phils manager in 1993...

so even if he fails in the clutch he can still stand just out of sight smoking cigs with, well, not Dykstra, so...I don't know, who is/was a heavy smoker? And please don't tell me Woodie Held.

No word on Held's smoking habits, but he did pass away this past summer:

The entire 1969 SOM community observed a moment of silence in his honor before trying to draft him in their next league.

and if you remember Gorshar, the one who ran up the price on Fregosi with you was yours truly. We are thinking alike. I actually think Aparicio is a little more valuable than Fregosi (despite what the card price reads) so I have bid accordingly.
Still I think I have the steals price wise of the draft with Marichal and Peterson (combined I only paid a 10% premium for 2 of the top 10 pitchers). There is going to be a dog fight for the top starters remaining!

Maybe I'm thinking too much ATG here, but my experience with non-DH leagues and the old bullpen version was that of HAL yanking your stud starter for a pinch hitter in the 6th inning of a 1-1 game, hence I haven't even considered bidding on the top guys. Too many times I found Johnson, Mathewson, Brown, and Joss turned into complete throwaways ... until I started playing DH only leagues.

the key gorshar is using the right settings AND pitching in a pitcher's park....you will see that those guys used right will throw complete games 40% of the time
