Mark Ellis - Lack of Love?

Mark Ellis - Lack of Love?

Postby bleacher_creature » Fri Mar 17, 2006 1:55 pm

I picked him up in the waiver draft (I was 7th).

My 1st team features Mark Ellis at 2B, and he will hit 2nd every day. We will see how well he performs, but dollar for dollar I'd take him over B. Roberts any day of the week. "1" fielders are SLIGHTLY overrated, whereas a 2e8 in the middle infield like Ellis, is probably underrated in terms of value vs effectiveness.

What is not to like about 44+ OB chances per side, great D, and some pop (N power vs both)?

I'm not calling him a "bargain", I'm just saying I expect a great year out of him, with 3 hitters parks in my division (Coors, US Cell, Minute Maid, mine is Dodger).

We shall see. Anyone else hear me out there on Mark Ellis?

And Roberts is weak vs lefties, and therefore OVERPRICED. Who can justify MOTO money for a guy that MIGHT hit 3rd vs righties only.

Agree with Socalchiro. Nothing is worse than having to insure protection for your 2nd, SS, and CF positions for the 15 gamer. Though he wasn't one of those 3 positions, I once losr Mabry in 05 for 15 games, came back for 2 ab's and lost him for another 15 games. Overall, I lost 42 games for the season from him. That happens to your 2nd baseman or the other 2 positions I mentioned and chances are you'll be watching the playoffs from the seats.

Jerlins,

This is a pure oddity that [b:fccdbb2227]Ripley's[/b:fccdbb2227] should put in their book.

INJ chance = 2.78% ea. side. Divide by two (50% results on pitchers' cards) = 1.39%.

[b:fccdbb2227]Times INJ will occur over 600 PAs = 8.34[/b:fccdbb2227]

Chance for the dreaded 15 gamer = 1 in 20 on INJ Chart. 5% of 8.34 = [b:fccdbb2227].417 times per season.[/b:fccdbb2227]

Chances it will happen twice? We need a real mathemetician for that. Where's that guy that figured out the amount of losses a down grade from a 1-2-3-4 costs per position in wins?
