Oh sure, blame it on Harry Reid. In 1999 the Treasury has surpluses as far as the eye can see, Bush's tax cuts for the superwealthy combined with the Republican's unfunded spending on prescription drugs and Iraq turn the surplus into giant deficits and we end up on the brink of financial collapse. But forget all that, blame Harry Reid for proposing "death panels" to curtail spending on the moribund elderly.
I'm just going to admit it. My bid on Yaz is MY responsibility. Reid can make his own bids.

Yep, those Repubs sure showed us how to spend what we don't have - so we're gonna one up them and spend even more - at twice the rate they did! 1.4 trillion deficit this year? Wait until next!

With 10+% unemployment, classical macroecon theory is to crank up deficit spending; then in flush times, run a surplus. Plus the "death panel" crap has really hit a nerve with me. I've seen too many people subjected to excessive medical procedures in the last year of life, and the idea that we can't even talk to families about end-of-life decisions really bothers me. So, yeah, it hit a nerve.

As the physician in this group, I don't want to start. But as far as I am concerned, this is another tax bill. If you want to talk medical cost containment, start with the attorneys and tort reform, talk about taxing medical benefits from companies as actual income (like it should be) and allow insurance companies to compete across state lines to have better competition.
Finally when did handouts like this ever work?

The rule is (and this is a Larry David type rule), you can add a comment if you make a bid. So, Sneeze's comment should go on the chat board, but I can comment here since I paid for it. Tort reform is a great idea but there needs to be a way to remove incompetent doctors besides waiting for them to kill Michael Jackson. The people in the media critisizing spending are not serious because none of them complained about Bush's spending and they forced the Dems to remove end-of -life counseling which is an easy way to save a lot of money and reduce suffering.
