Another advantage of Ellsbury in LF is that he should become more of a factor on the basepaths.

I don't understand this ... :?

Not that I like to speak for someone else, but I beleive, Mr BeltranFebles, believes that there will be less wear and tear defensivly on Ellsbury playing LF which would allow him to be a bit more aggressive on the basepaths.

I don't subscribe to that, personally mind you, but I think what he was getting at, is that LF is a less physically demanding posistion than CF.
Your milage may vary.

[quote:e23cecc2b9="marcus wilby"]But then again, Boston's move to give Cameroun a two-year contract tells me that the Boston management doesn't think Ellsbury's problem at cf is simply a matter of adjustments...[/quote:e23cecc2b9]

[quote:e23cecc2b9="socalchiro"]Good point marcus. Cameron can play left or right though. My guess is he''l go to left to replace Bay.....[/quote:e23cecc2b9]

[quote:e23cecc2b9="keyzick"]First, Cameron was brought in to play left, not center....[/quote:e23cecc2b9]

[quote:e23cecc2b9="BeltranFebles"]My educated guess is that Cameron ends up in CF the majority of the time because he is a superior CF to Ellsbury.....[/quote:e23cecc2b9]

Well, it's pretty obvious that the BoSox management is into the defensive metrics.

According to UZR metrics, 2009 results, a full-time Beltre would save 30 runs compared to a full-time Lowell. Cameron over Ellsbury is another 25 saved runs. 55 runs saved, or 5 or 6 more wins. With a huge upside that Ellsbury returns to positive numbers now that he plays left field.

Of Course, Cameron's offense is not likely to equate Bay's. Bill James predicts an offensive decrease equivalent to 3 wins. But this decrease is likely to be compensated by Scaturo's performance over what the Red Sox had at ss over the last years (Scaturo performed over the last two years, on average roughly 3 wins better, offense and defense accounted, compared to Gonzalez/Lugo/Lowrie.)

According to a Boston newspaper, Ellsbury will play left and Cameron will be in center.

Unless of course, Boston sees 85% LHSP this season. (Cameron has always been very good vs. LH's and average vs. RH's)

j/k...
