Declaring nightly starting pitching rotation

In real life MLB, teams know who's starting for and against them well before they set the batting order each night. I think this should be reflected in SOM.

Particularly for leagues in which there is some roster flexibility, I would like to have the pitchers for that night "locked in" prior to declaring the starting lineup. Ultimately, it would be nice to set lineups for each individual game, but this would be a step in the right direction.

Well, I voted no change strictly for practical reasons. I wouldn't want to have different deadlines during regular season, and sometimes I don't look into the matter of whom I put starter before well into the evening (strictly for availability issues).

This said, I would agree if different rules would apply for playoffs.

The real solution would be a line-up vs each pitcher...or at least versus the 4 types of pitchers (reverse lhp, reverse rhp, normal lhp, normal rhp), which is something on Bernie's list, if I'm not mistaken.

It would be nice if it kept it current with updates as they occurred . . . I played one league with a huge salary cap, the computer could show three starters for you due to the rotation, and you could start an entirely different staff. I would like it locked in maybe an hour before roster changes are due for the night? I also like the idea of having a per-game lineup card, there are plenty of times I'd like to start a backup for one game but can't because he is better against righties . . . andyou know how rare it is to face only one RHP in a series.

I agree with Lucky (Marcus), the solution is to have separate lineups vs. the four types of pitchers. I'm pretty sure that's still on Bernie's list.

2 deadlines a day is not going to happen (I hope). We'd lose too many people who are either casual players or, like Lucky, have limited computer access and if you eliminate those people, this site will disappear. TSN/Strat needs to appeal to more people, not less. One of the beauties of the change in bullpen logic is that it gives fanatics (us) something to play with, but can be ignored by casual players (or people who don't like games to be too complicated). Same with the idea of separate lineups for the 4 types of pitchers. Use them or not.

I'm a musician and I tour 3-4 times a year and I have limited access and time when I'm on the road. When I'm home, I micromanage and it's a lot of fun, but I can still play when I'm travelling, just can't do the everyday matchups as well.

No. You can't play at home and on the road in the same night. You can, however, face three very different pitchers on a given night.

it's sort of a time-honored tactic to switch starters at the last minute.

and given that most of us have jobs and/or families, we need the time to make any changes. there have been times I got mine in at 9:59 pm ET, and not because I was trying to be cute.

Good point, prcassidy. In fact, there are probably even managers who do not look at their teams every day (horrors!).

That's why I thought it might be good to have standard home/road lineups, too -- especially if your home park was heavily tilted to slugger-friendly or pitcher-friendly.
