Our Mystery Card games - The '70s Game, Back to the '80s, Back to the '90s

Postby voovits » Fri Dec 18, 2009 7:35 pm

The only way I'd be for a combination would be if it did not use every player from both leagues, but a select group. Take a portion of the 80s players, and a portion of the 70s players, and make a combined group of players about as large as the 70s player pool, give 'em all 5 possible seasons and go with it.
That would not be a replacement for the 70s and 80s games, just another option.
On that note however, I, and I assume most everyone else would much rather see a 90s, 50's/60's or even an ATG mystery card game over a combined 70s and 80s game.

They could essentially increase the usable player pool by simply repricing the players. Guys like Roger Repoz never get used because he is so overpriced.

This needs a bump considering Bernie started talking about upgrading the 70s and 80s games.
Someone needs to call his attention to this thread.

I, too, have been in contact with Bernie regarding mystery card games. We exchanged lengthy emails just befor the holidays and he reiterated that he wants to upgrade the games but doesn't know what is/isn't realistice. Believe me that he knows there is a strong and loyal community for these games. My request to him was after the start of the year he would address the community about what may or may not be some realistic starting points for change so to better set any expectations. I look for him to talk to us in the near future

The only change needed is to add some new cards to the 80's set.

most important for me is to reveal the years of free agents at the end of the season.

Most important to me is to eliminate the 'injury reveal'. Make all injury roll results the same.

While an interesting way to find out, I find it to be a bogus way to do it and it's not the intent of the mystery series.

For both the 70's and 80's games I'd like to see the injury reveal eliminated, but the last 10 games left on cards when they are dropped, or have a L/R split for cards in the FA.

I agree that I hate the injury reveal. I think there should be more challenge and skill involved in determining which card you have. If you leave the last 10 games on the card when it is dropped, or have a L/R split on the cards in the FA, then that would make it more possible to do research to determine if a card is worth picking up.

That way, if you see a top player has been dropped, you can do your own determination whether that other manager got it right. I hate seeing Schmidt dropped after the first series because an injury reveal shows he is on his worst card. so no one picks him up. there would be more intrigue if he was sitting there, looking tempting, and someone might drop the cash and take a calculated change.

I personally like the injury reveal the way it is. It is rare when an injury gives you the exact card anyway although this does happen more often in the 70's game than the 80's game.

I agree with Bombers, I like the injury reveal and I think it should stay as is. It's part of the luck factor involved when dealing with rolling dice. Getting a lucky early injury reveal is part of the game.
I do however like the idea of having the last 10 games and the L/R splits available for all dropped players (even after being picked up). Think of it realistically. Baseballs tats are not proprietary to the teams the players are on. If a player gets waived in real life, other teams don't suddenly have no access to the stats he has put up thus far, including L/R and home/away splits.
