HAL - Game engine card read error results in loss

HAL - Game engine card read error results in loss

Postby TERRANCEMOTLEY » Mon Jan 11, 2010 5:55 pm

My 2008 season strat baseball team lost in a 19th inning game but should have won the game in the bottom of the 15th inning.
See below
*** BOTTOM OF INNING 15 ***
SUBSTITUTE P - Jorge Campillo
0 M.Olivo 2-5 Ground Out (3B) b-0 F9
1 O.Hudson 2-7 Ground Out (2B) b-0 F9
2 J.Mather 2-6 Ground Out (3B) b-0 F9

The M. Olivo 2-5 roll should be a Double(rf)
The O. Hudson 2-7 roll is correct
The J. Mather 2-6 roll is a HR 1-2 or Double 3-20
I should have won this game in the bottom of the 15th.
Here is the link to the box score

I am wondering how many other games have been won or lost in the past and the impact on the league results.
This can't happen. If the game/card play results are not correct, the integrity of this game is gone. How long has this been going on? What is SN doing to fix this? HAL should not be delivering inaccurate card readings that determine the outcome of games.
I emailed Berneh but have not recieved a response.
Thoughts anyone?

It sounds like the guarding the lines effect robbed him of a double.

Exactly, game's tied in overtime, Hal chooses to guard the line.

That's a good catch, I wouldn't have thought of it myself. I'm not familiar with how this effect is applied - I pretty much played the basic game with cards, and the super advanced CDRom game. I'm sure someone here has a link to how it works though.

There is no such thing as guarding the lines in strat baseball rules. Just HAL's way of manipulating the game results.

Computer baseball allows guarding the lines to prevent doubles. You are correct that this strategy increases singles. If you improvise for the board game, I don’t think you’d want to eliminate all doubles – most happen on balls hit in the air. But you might eliminate the doubles that start a split chance (e.g. DO** 1-11, SI** 12-20). You might even want to turn some of those doubles into outs – perhaps if the roll is within the double range and is an even number. Similarly, converting all flyC and flyB? results into hits is too harsh. That could add 50 or more batting-average points to the hitter. But maybe stick with the split-chance theme and say that non-ballpark chances that begin with a SI* split become automatic singles. For variety, authenticity and drama, roll the 20-sided die anyway and if the number is odd, it’s a SINGLE*. If even, it’s a SINGLE**.

Exactly. I wish the computer yielded a single instead, but the engine doesn't work this way unfortunately.

Thank you for your theories in defense of HAL. However, the 1st roll of the inning was a 2-5 - Double(rf) on Olivo's card. It would be impossible to get a gb(3b) out if you are guarding the right field line. This does not make sense. Second, the 2-6 roll on Mather's card was HR 1-2, Double 3-20. This would be either a HR or Double off the wall in reality. Again, guarding the line would not prevent this let alone result in a gb (3b) out.
I appreciate your ideals and insight but It does not appear to apply here.
I still have not recieved a response from Bernieh or SN.
