Pitcher Preferences (Problems)

Pitcher Preferences (Problems)

Postby Jeepdriver » Wed Jan 13, 2010 11:05 am

Has anyone noticed that they may not be working as well as when it was first implemented. Long story short, on my Tour team I'm trying to reduce Arredondo's innings and give those to Howell. I have reversed all my settings to where Howell should be the first reliever brought in (instead of Arredondo) however Arredondo continues to be first called in over Howell. This has been going on for a week now. I've tried clearing the settings and re-entering them among other things, all to no avail.

I thought that the Tour team was the only team this was happening to, but in the last couple of days I have tweaked settings on other teams, but it appears the old settings are still going on.

[b:267568eaac]To me it looks like the computer isn't recognizing changes/tweaks to the settings.[/b:267568eaac]

Has anyone else noticed this?

Not so far, but I'll watch for this.

Hi Jeep! I haven't noticed this so far, but I will watch out for it. So far, HAL seems to be using relievers as instructed for me.

When you say that you are setting to have Howell be the first reliever brought in - can you be more specifc as to the settings you have entered? For example, do you specify a closer? In the "manager" settings, is closer useage set to "maximum" or "regular"? What are your settings for closer, set-up, and other roles?

I'm just wondering that maybe, if Howell is set as the #1 closer, maybe the computer is prioritizing that as the #1 priority in the bullpen management. Therefore, if even if Howell is also the #1 set-up man, maybe HAL is still putting Arredondo in first and "saving" Howell for potential closer situations. Does this sound like possibly what is happening?

That isn't the problem, I have Qualls as my closer. Even if I didn't (have Qualls) it shouldn't "hold" my reliever regardless.

Anyone else experiencing funny stuff?

Hi Jeep...

Question...Is Arredondo doing OK? If he is, what's the worry? Unless, with this being a Tour team, you HAVE to limit his innings.

What I'd do is quick hook him, max. 1-2 IP.

With Howell, slow hook, IBB less.

Good luck in the Tour,

Yes it's a Tour team and his innings are mounting.

Regardless, if there's a problem (with V2) I want it fixed.

Well, the one thing weird I noticed is that Hal does not seem to consider the first option when first option is a "specialist" role. By putting a reliever as a "lh specialist" at the top of the bullpen setting, I had expected that this reliever would come on vs a lh as much as much possible, at least after the 7th inning, but Hal will usually ignore that order.

But I did make that change (putting a lh specialist at top of my bullpen order) recently, so perhaps it's a case of Hal ignoring my new settings.

I think there's a problem when we edit the settings. Somehow, the new settings are being ignored and the computer is adhering to only the old "original" settings. I have experimented with this now on several teams the last few days and I'm pretty certain of this.

Bernie, help.

I noticed it too. I had been using my settings to get Cory Wade's innings down and I just changed them back yesterday for him to be the first middle reliever, but Capps was used as my first option (as was my previous setting).

Here's hoping a couple of you guys get disqualified so I can get my crappy team in :)

Jeep,

I've been looking at this, and so far I can't find anything that would be wrong. That doesn't necessarily mean there's nothing wrong, of course. I just don't think there's anything that's systematically wrong, otherwise we'd be hearing from a lot more than just one single manager (plus one more, at least partially, in Detroit-Tigers).

That said, I want to do what I can to resolve whatever is the matter with your team(s), and I'm thinking it might be best at this point to chat with you on the phone because I still have incomplete information. In looking at your past games it's hard to determine what's going on because 1) we don't have complete internal game logs beyond 1 day in the past, and 2) you implied that you've made some changes so I don't know how your preferences were set for the games in question.

As for last night's games (118-120), I didn't find anything wrong. In game 118, Arredondo appeared because he was basically the only available, rested arm not restricted by other settings (Howell had pitched in 3 straight games before then). In game 120, he appeared but not before anyone else he should've been behind.

Going forward, if you could provide links to specific boxscores when they are played, along with why you think they are examples of your preferences being ignored, either here or by email, that would help. At least until we figure out if and when we should speak on the phone.
