ATG 5 auction bidding

Postby gorshar » Tue Jan 26, 2010 1:49 am

litangel - this is nothing new. Every auction I've ever been in somebody blows all their cash early and has to sit back and wait until the end of the auction to fill out their rosters. That's part of the strategy - financial management. Just as in a standard $80 mil league, you can never afford all the players you would want, in an auction, you may not be able to bid on all the players you want simply because you've run out of cash too soon.

Believe it or not, all the $8 and $9 mill hitters and most of the pitchers will find teams, and so too will most if not all the $7 mill hitters, though not so many of the pitchers.

Ok, so maybe this is just the way that folks who try a new genre of game get hosed a little bit. But the sad part is, I DID plan for the end of the auction, under the idea, that as in my other two auctions, I can get decent players in several positions with .50 at the end of the auction, not realizing that the minimum bid would pretty much devastate that option. If I had realized this, every bid I made, except possibly the first two would have been lower. And now i am pretty much trapped.

litangel, with a .50 minimum bid, towards the end of the auction, you will be able to buy any player whose value is 5 million or less. That makes for some pretty darn good back-ups at any position. During a normal draft, you would be filling out the roster with honest to god .50 players.

Idanred and joekendall each bid 1.03, more than my opening bid. All others passed.

Please bid again, dan and joe

Minimum$

It was pretty clear in the rules that you had $80M to spend and you had to pay a minimum 10% for any player. I am not sure how you got hosed litangel! It is a part of the strategy of the game just ask Mr. BBW who never spends quickly. In our first auction league he won the World Series.
You have a lot of money left just spend it wisely like the rest of us and plan your budget. The only one that ripped you off was Babe Ruth and his fat contract. lol!
  8-)

sigh.... he says this *after* he outbids me on Gehringer.....

Well I was number two at 3.09 with Gehringer... and I really wanted him. If the rest of the league allows it I'd be happy to take him off your hands for that price and you can have 5 mill back in your coffer. But only if *nobody* objects as this would go against the rule of no trades, no FAs, etc.

My opinion is no changes. I know I have made a major mistake in this draft but I will deal with it. Any changes could drastically change someone else's plans.

I will abide with whatever the league decides to do.

Which follows the original rule and that's that. Litangel keeps Gehringer and I keep looking for a 2B.
