Using my own pitching staff against me, Bill? Et tu Brute?
I always liked Dean Chance - always felt like you had a chance at a no-hitter with him pitching.
I have been reading the Clemente biography by Maraniss and just read about the players union meeting when Curt Flood spoke and declared his intent to bring a lawsuit against the league protesting his trade to Philly after (or late in) the '69 season. What a gutsy move that was. Then checked his record again on Baseball Reference and saw after sitting out the '70 season, he played just a bit with Washington in '71 but he was basically done. Clemente was suprisingly very connected with Flood's cause and strong supporter. Joe Torre was at the meeting too, as teh Cradinals rep - who knew he would be managing a $220M payroll in a few years - egad!
