1969 AUCTION LEAGUE - BIDDING ONLY

Our historical single season sets

Bidding practices and the cap

Postby GFDWARF07 » Mon Feb 01, 2010 7:07 pm

The point made earlier is very salient as we approach the latter part of the draft. Bids cannot be made that, if all current bids closed, would place the bidder above his salary cap. I other words, if you are the leading bidder on one or more players, you have to assume you will win that player(s) in your other bidding. This becomes very important toward the tail end here, so I just wanted to make sure everyone understands.

Another reminder is that the minimum bid for all players is 10% of their salary, rounded up to the nearest 100K, or 500K, whichever is greater. A couple times people have nominated players that are priced >5M at 500K but the bid quickly moved above the minimum so I just didn't worry about it.

Thanks all - this has been a very fun auction, though for my taste five players at a time would be enough - personally, I have missed a few opportunities with seven on the board. But that's what we agreed.

Thanks all for taking a chance - hope you are having fun!

ldanred

I realize he has PM'd assurances he will fulfill his obligation here, but given that we received the same (repeated) assurances from him in the other auction leagues and ultimately still had to replace him in the ATG4, ATG5, and 1999 auctions and that he still has been completely inactive here for some time, does concern me.

I'm not trying to be the bad guy or dump on ldanred and whatever real life difficulties are in his way, but I fail to see how the assurances that he will fulfill his 1969 auction duties should be seen any differently from the assurances that he could fulfill his obligations in the other leagues when he could not. For nearly a month he stated he would load his ATG4 team tonight, tomorrow, soon, shortly, yet never did so. Fortunately someone came forward and agreed to play the team he chose. I'm not sure we could be so lucky a second time...
...or actually a third time as we probably need to find someone to take his nearly complete 24 of 25 players chosen 2008 auction team...

Gorshar has a point here. This is a really fun auction, but if Idanred doesn't start bidding fairly soon, I don't see how he can have a competitive team, nor a team anyone would want. The problem is the lack of pitching on Idanred's team. Perhaps this could be fixed by some kind of supplemental draft by a manager picking up his team, but I can't figure out a fair way to conduct a supplemental draft.
