1969 AUCTION LEAGUE - BIDDING ONLY

Our historical single season sets

Postby GFDWARF07 » Mon Feb 01, 2010 10:09 pm

I do not know him personally, but have played this game with him in many leagues. I sent him a message via e-mail referencing the issue in the ATG IV draft and our concern.

He responded:

Thanks for the kind note

Yes I will be continuing to proceed with the 2 1969 leagues, I am not checking in each day onthe boards and when it is time to load may need a couple of days if that is ok.

thanks

Taking this at face value (notwithstanding the other issues in the other leagues), I am inclined to trust his word here. But that may be naive on my part. I offered the opportunity to own-up and tell us if he needed to drop and he didn't.

I don't want to throw this draft into a morass (I would never get Carew again for 10M), but respect the concern and think we need to simply come up with a plan "B" in the event ldan doesn't ultimately follow-through and join. Personally, I feel he will join.

Plan "B" (from outer space):
Option 1. Seek a replacement owner when it is clear Dan is not joining - allow them to fill in the roster Dan bought, with theri choice to supplement (the only incentive really)
Option 2. I like sneeze's idea, as it enables us to continue and give ldan a chance to join, as he has said he will. I will e-mail him again and ask him to get bidding. But if he doesn't for some reason, maybe the best idea is to take sneeze up on his offer, fill the roster the best we can to get close to the cap with the appropriate number of P and H, then perhaps fill him into a division randomly (i.e. do a single number 1-12 pick and slide him in that hole, moving everyone else down a notch - or redrawing for divisions altogether). This may give three teams an advantage, but it at least does so randomly.

I do not like the start over ideas - that should be a last resort - we can do another auction after this league is done and start over then. I respect the logic driving that, just don't have the heart to throw this team away!

Risden also has a couple alternatives for replacements if needed. I sent another message to Dan tonight - let's see how he responds. Thanks all for your concerns and patience.

lets pause for his or his replacement's benefit until we resolve.

Similar to comments made re: ATG4 where he was a given about one month to load his team before we moved on with a replacement.

I fail to see how he can know at this point that he will need a couple days to load a team. Something isn't adding up.

I would feel better that rather than he give us promises of what he will do later, that instead he simply returns to active participation in the auction so that if later he is unable to continue he will have a team more easily taken over by another.

And I don't like the idea of giving players away at value.

The 24 hours have passed on Stone and I claim him for 1.5.

Should I nominate a new pitcher or should we hold off?

I am voting for ldanred and giving him the benefit of the doubt. Since he wrote to Dan and said he's still in, I say we let him be in.

I have never participated in a league where Dan has bowed out. I know some of you are saying it's happened, and I believe you.

But for the moment anyway, he is saying (via email to the Commissioner) that he still wants to play. So we just can't decide he MIGHT be a problem and toss him.

It's not like he hasn't won ANY players at this point.

In case he can't play, I would agree to the idea that we fill out the roster with the best available players left over and let Hal run the team unless Gordie or somebody else wants to do it for free.

If we need to pass the hat, I'm sure we can find enough people to kick in to make it work.

But I don't think we can ASSUME he's out, when he just sent an email a day or two ago saying he's in?...right?

I say let the draft continue as normal!

What does it hurt to wait until he makes a bid?I say freeze for a short time. Lets let him respond. Only takes a second for him to get on net. Draft has been going for a month and has a month to go. What is a day ?

I'm not saying we throw him out at this time. But I want to see action not words. I want to see him actively bidding on players again. We received countless PMs and posts from him in regards to assurances he would load his ATG4 team which he never did after nearly one month of waiting. He's gone kind of AWOL on his nearly completed 2008 team and we had to replace him in three other leagues already. I think my concerns are valid.
