We have spent a lot of time discussing the very specific issue around tie bids, I would like to talk about an overall strategic issue that comes up with the way we introduce bids.
It is disadvantageous to bring up players we really want, as we make out best bid and then other owners can take aim, only needing to outbid us by .01. Earlier in the auction it was easier to get around this by simply bringing up players we know others will want that we are not interested in. As we reach this point in the auction, there is a big risk that someone we bring up will not be bid upon, and so we are stuck with them. The players who we don't really want, but wouldn't mind being stuck with gets small quickly. There is a strategy to this, but I am not sure it is a fun or interesting strategy. It may be too late this time around, but since I think this is a superior form of auction which hopefully gets used again. next time I propose that we open a new player without an opening bid, listing only the minimum for that player. The opening player can cast a semi-secret bid by sending it to the next person in our rotation. That player will know the proposer's bid, but no one else would. The proposer could win the auction. If no one bids, the player would still go to the proposing owner for minimum.
the advantage of this is that an owner would feel more willing to propose a player he truly wants, especially if he watches the roster of the player ahead of him, and can predict who that person is not likely to be interested in. I think this would lead to more interesting bidding, especially late in the auction.
If the proposing owner bids on a player he must do it immediately, so he can not see any of the bids coming in. If his bid is sent in more than 15 minutes after he puts the player on the auction thread, it would not count.

What do you think of this idea?
