Good '08 Trade: Papelbon/J Smith for Broxton/ Morrow?

I am looking at a trade that has me giving up Papelbon/ J Smith forBroxton/ Morrow at its core.

The 12 team league is predominately Pitcher's Parks.

My division is Turner (me), US Cell, AT&T nd the Metrodome.

There are 3 of us wi8thin 2 games of one another with 57 games left.

Anyone have much success with either Morrow or Broxton as their closer.

I could go two-headed with Shouse.

I hate to give up Papelbon but Of the 3 competitive teams I need to improve my bullpen a bit. I am hoping that this might help.

Morrow, just like all SP/RPs, should be considered as a starting pitcher. That is predominantly how he is priced. His value as a closer is insignificant.

That being said, Morrow and Broxton are good fits for Turner. Papelbon should do well anywhere, though his 0 bpHRs is most valuable in a hitter's park. Unless your rotation is really weak I would think twice about dealing two relievers for a starter and reliever if you want to improve your bullpen.

I don't like it. I don't see it improving you significantly. Morrow is a good SP for hitters parks, but you already have 4 * SPs. As a closer/reliever combo I'd prefer Howell/Papelbon to Broxton/Morrow.

As a side note, I'd check on Shouse. He's pitching to more righties than lefties.

I tried Nagy at 1b in a pitcher's park in a $60M 24 team league, and he had about the same numbers for the season (.268, .336, .392). It was painful. Could just be bad luck, his card should produce more.

But looking at your FA list, it appears that Pablo Sandoval (one of the best cards in the set versus righties in pitcher's parks) is available. Even sacrificing the 20% drop penalty, I'd do it in a heartbeat and let his middling, but not horrid lefthand side of the card stand. Or rejigger and pick up someone like Casey who can hit lefties and also play when Sandoval goes down.
